Cyprus Wine TourThis half-day shore excursion from Limassol, about 7 miles (11km) to the first stop, is built around Cyprus's wine making history and its modern wine industry. After meeting your guide at the port, you drive to Erimi village and the Cyprus Wine Museum, where exhibits trace the island's wine making tradition from antiquity to the present day. Cyprus has one of the oldest continuous wine making histories in the world, going back roughly 4,000 years. While at the museum you can sample local wines along with Commandaria, an amber colored sweet dessert wine made in the Troodos foothills. Commandaria takes its name from a medieval estate of the Knights Hospitaller known as La Grande Commanderie and is widely regarded as the oldest wine still produced today under a name that has remained in continuous use since the Middle Ages. From Erimi, you continue about 37 miles (60km) to the village of Agios Amvrosios to visit Zambartas Winery. A member of your group's private guide accompanies you on a tour of the winery, followed by a tasting of several additional wines, including Xinisteri, Maratheftiko red, Cabernet Franc, Lefkada Rose, Sauvignon Blanc, Semillon, Epikourios, and Shiraz.
