Touring from Naples — Pompeii, the Amalfi Coast & Sorrento
Naples is one of the best-positioned cruise ports in the Mediterranean. Your ship docks at the Stazione Marittima on Molo Beverello, right in the centre of the city — the historic quarter, Castel Nuovo and the waterfront are all within walking distance. But the real draw is what lies beyond the city. Ancient Pompeii, buried under volcanic ash since the eruption of Vesuvius in 79 AD, is just 30 minutes by private vehicle. Your licensed guide walks you through marble-paved streets, past the Forum, the amphitheatre, the bathhouses and the remarkably preserved frescoes of the Villa of the Mysteries.
South of Naples, the Amalfi Coast is one of the most scenic drives in Europe — a ribbon of road carved into sea cliffs connecting Sorrento, Positano, Amalfi and Ravello. Most guests combine a morning at Pompeii with an afternoon drive along the coast, stopping in Sorrento for lunch and a clifftop stroll. With a full port day, Positano and Ravello are also within reach. Other popular excursions include a visit to the island of Capri (reached by hydrofoil from the adjacent ferry terminal) or a drive up Mount Vesuvius itself for panoramic views across the Bay of Naples.
