Touring in Dubrovnik

Dubrovnik is one of the most visually stunning ports in the Mediterranean — a walled city perched on the Adriatic coast that has drawn travelers for centuries. The UNESCO-listed Old Town is remarkably well preserved, with marble-paved streets, Baroque churches, medieval fortresses and terracotta rooftops that cascade down to the sea. But Dubrovnik is more than its walls. From the port, your private guide can take you into the countryside for wine tastings at family-run vineyards, across the border into Montenegro, by boat to the forested Elaphite Islands, or up the cable car to Mount Srđ for panoramic views over the entire coastline.

Frequently Asked Questions — Dubrovnik Shore Excursions

Can I walk to the Old Town from the cruise port?

Not easily. Cruise ships dock at Port Gruž, which is about 3 kilometers (2 miles) northwest of the Old Town — roughly a 35-minute walk or a short drive. Your private guide and driver pick you up directly at the port and handle all transportation throughout the day, so you don't need to navigate buses or taxis.

How crowded is Dubrovnik when cruise ships are in port?

Dubrovnik can get very crowded when multiple ships are docked, especially inside the Old Town walls between 10am and 2pm. A private guide knows exactly when and where to go to avoid the worst of it — early morning wall walks, quieter side streets, and lunch spots the tour buses don't reach. Timing makes a huge difference.

Which Dubrovnik tour is best if someone can’t walk very much?

If you choose one of our Flexible Dubrovnik tours we can assist you. Many cruise passengers with limited mobility prefer tours that include scenic stops above the Old Town, photo viewpoints from Mount Srđ, and a gentle stroll along the flat Stradun promenade instead of climbing stairs or walking the city walls.

Are there filming location tours for Game of Thrones fans?

Yes. Dubrovnik served as the primary filming location for King's Landing. Your guide can point out key filming sites throughout the Old Town including Fort Lovrijenac (the Red Keep), the Jesuit Staircase (the Walk of Shame) and the Rector's Palace. These can be woven into any Dubrovnik walking tour.

What about wine tasting near Dubrovnik?

The Pelješac Peninsula, about an hour north of Dubrovnik, is Croatia's premier wine region — known for its bold Plavac Mali reds. Several family-run wineries offer private tastings with stunning views over the vineyards and the Adriatic. Wine tours can be combined with a visit to the medieval town of Ston and its ancient salt pans.

What is the back-to-ship guarantee?

Our back-to-ship guarantee means that if an unforeseen delay during your private tour prevents you from returning to the cruise terminal before your ship departs, we will arrange and cover the cost of transportation to your next port of call. This guarantee applies to all private shore excursions from Dubrovnik which meet the time requirements.
