The main cruise terminals are at Vippetangen, Revierkaia, and Akershusstranda - all within 1 to 2 kilometers of the Akershus Fortress and the city center. The Vigeland Sculpture Park in the Frogner district of Oslo is the largest sculpture installation created by a single artist anywhere in the world. Norwegian sculptor Gustav Vigeland worked on the park from 1924 until his death in 1943, creating 212 sculptures in bronze, granite, and cast iron depicting the full cycle of human life. The centerpiece is the Monolith - a 14-meter granite column carved from a single block of stone and composed of 121 intertwined human figures. The park covers 80 acres and is open to the public year-round at no charge.

Oslo has three outstanding specialist museums that are unique in the world. The Viking Ship Museum houses three intact Viking ships dating from the 9th century, excavated from burial mounds in the Oslofjord area - the best preserved Viking-age vessels in existence. The Fram Museum contains the polar exploration ship Fram, which reached further south (78 degrees 41 minutes south) than any other wooden vessel in history, and further north than any other ship. The Kon-Tiki Museum displays the original balsa wood raft on which Thor Heyerdahl sailed 8,000 kilometers across the Pacific Ocean in 1947. Note: the Viking Ship Museum is currently closed for major renovation - check before including it in your itinerary.
