This
Kiel shore trip takes you to the most charming spots in Hamburg. It's a great tour for those who appreciate "old Germany' set in the heart of the big city of Hamburg.
After meeting your guide you depart for Hamburg. Upon arrival you enjoy a scenic drive through the city until you reach the Alster Lake. Next you enjoy a scenic boat cruise on the lake which allows you to get many views of Hamburg's grand buildings and steeples rising above the rooftops.
After the boat cruise you walk through the city's main square to the Rathaus (town hall), which is Hamburg's most famous building. This neo-Renaissance building dates back to the late 1800s and still functions as the mayor's office as well as meeting spaces for the city's parliament and senate. You go into the ornately decorated building and then on to it's main courtyard with its famous Hygieia fountain. After a visit here, one cannot believe that a government building can be so beautiful.
Next is a short visit to the Krameramstuben. These historic half timbered buildings date back to the 1600s and are Hamburg's last continues row of houses from that period. The small homes were a donation built to house the poor windows of local traders.
Next you walk to St. Michael's Church, known by the locals only as Michel. This is probably the most famous landmark in Hamburg and you are certain to enjoy an interior visit. The baroque style interior is typical of many German Lutheran churches; light and airy, yet large and powerful. Take notice of the ship-like pulpit which pays homage to Hamburg's seafaring history. Nearby is the impressive alter with a huge glass mosaic altarpiece. As you leave, you see the large bronze statue of St. Michael (Hamburg's patron saint), conquering the devil.
After your tour you return to Kiel with fond memories of these charming places set in the big city of Hamburg.
Mobility: No wheelchairs (law does not allow them on the boat)
