TOUR DESCRIPTION

Barcelona Shore Excursion

This Barcelona shore trip enjoys photo stops at the most important sites of Barcelona. You see a lot in a short time, enjoy panoramic views of the city and also learn about the city's history. It is a great option if you want to include airport pick up and then drop off at your hotel or cruise ship.

After meeting your driver guide you drive up Montjuich Mountain to see the Olympic Stadium and National Palace. From here you have a photo stop to enjoy one of the most spectacular views over all of Barcelona.

Coming back into central Barcelona you have a photo stop in the Plaza de Espana to see the buildings built for of the World's Fair in 1929. Next is a photo stop at the Sagrada Familia (Sacred Family) church, design by Antonio Gaudi, and today a symbol of Barcelona. This building is the crowning masterpiece of Gaudi and the epitome of Catalan modernist architecture, making this one of the most visited sites in Barcelona.

Then you travel along the Paseig de Gracia, one of the major streets in Barcelona and one of its most important shopping areas. This is the modernist district of the city which saw the flowering of Barcelona's Art Nouveau boom. Along this route you enjoy a photo stop to see the city's most celebrated pieces of architecture including the Casa Batllo and Casa Mila, both built in the first decade of the 1900's. These turn of the century modernist buildings with their exuberant styles have become one reason that Barcelona is so well known.

Next you enjoy a photo stop at Placa Catalunya. This is the largest and busiest square in Barcelona and is considered the heart of the city located between the oldest quarter and the modernist district. The square is lined with monumental buildings, fountains and sculptures.

Your final stop is on the Gothic Quarter which is the oldest section of the city. You enjoy some free time where you could sample a Spanish tapa with a drink, people watch in a cafe, pick up a souvenir or take a peak inside Barcelona's Cathedral. When your Barcelona tour is over, you are brought back to your hotel or the cruise terminal.
