TOUR DESCRIPTION

St Paul de Vence & Eze Shore Excursion from Cannes

This Cannes shore trip visits two of the most beautiful hilltop villages on the French Riviera: Eze and Saint Paul de Vence. Your driver-guide takes you to Eze, known for its stunning views and quaint charm, and to Saint Paul de Vence, known for its art galleries and medieval walls, with time to explore each village and enjoy free time for lunch.

After meeting your driver-guide in Cannes, you enjoy a scenic drive along the Riviera until you reach Eze, a pedestrian only medieval village built from tiny stone lanes and buildings on a rocky peak above the sea. The village is crowned by the ruins of a 12th century fortified castle, demolished in 1706, whose grounds now hold the Jardin Exotique succulent garden. There is time to walk to the top of the village for sweeping views over the sea far below, browse the boutiques, or enjoy an ice cream with a million dollar view. Please note that you must leave the vehicle at the base of the village and walk up a steep hill into town, which is not recommended for anyone with limited mobility. If you are not up to the walk, you can instead enjoy the scents of Provence at the nearby Fragonard perfume factory.

Later in the morning you drive to Saint Paul de Vence. The vehicle parks outside the medieval walls near several cafes, where you can enjoy a relaxing lunch while watching locals play the Provencal games of boules or petanque. Afterward you can stroll the cobblestone streets of this hilltop Provencal town to browse its art galleries and boutiques. Saint Paul de Vence has long been a magnet for artists, and its cemetery holds the grave of painter Marc Chagall, who lived in the village and died in 1985. For guests interested in modern art, the Maeght Foundation sits on a hillside just outside the village walls. Founded in 1964 by gallerists Marguerite and Aime Maeght, the foundation holds works by Chagall, Miro, Giacometti, Braque, Calder and Leger, several of whom helped design the building itself. The Matisse designed Chapel of the Rosary sits a short drive away in the neighboring town of Vence, worth asking your driver-guide about if you have interest.

At the end of this leisurely Cannes shore excursion, your driver-guide brings you back to the pier.

Please note
  • During the Grand Prix Events there is a 50% supplement and it is not possible to visit Monaco or Monte Carlo from June 4-7, 2026. Please contact us if you are interested in a tour during this period.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do we have free time for lunch?
Yes. The vehicle parks near several cafes just outside Saint Paul de Vence's medieval walls, where you can enjoy a relaxing lunch while watching locals play boules.
How old are the castle ruins above Eze?
The ruins date to a 12th century fortified castle that was demolished in 1706. Its former grounds are now the Jardin Exotique succulent garden at the top of the village.
Who is buried in Saint Paul de Vence, and why is the village linked to artists?
Painter Marc Chagall lived in Saint Paul de Vence and is buried in the village cemetery. He died in 1985. The nearby Maeght Foundation, founded in 1964, also holds works by Miro, Giacometti, Braque, Calder and Leger.
Is this tour wheelchair accessible?
No. Eze requires a steep uphill walk from the parking area, and both villages have uneven medieval streets that are not suitable for wheelchairs. Please contact us for alternative options, including private driving tours.

Also Available:

›Riviera Highlights - If Monaco's palace and the Grand Prix circuit interest you more than a second hilltop village, this six hour tour trades Saint Paul de Vence for Monaco and Monte Carlo.
›Hilltop Riviera & Wine Tasting - For a longer day that adds a wine tasting, this eight hour version covers the same two villages plus a stop at Chateau de Cremat in the hills above Nice.
›Antibes, Nice, and St Paul de Vence - To swap Eze for a coastal yacht harbor and a beach town, this six hour tour keeps Saint Paul de Vence and pairs it with Antibes and Nice instead.

The shore trip was great! It was so much better to have a private tour, as opposed to the bus tours that the cruise line contracted with. We saw more sites than would have been possible any other way, our driver was knowledgable, and an expert driver, and she (Sabrina) got us back to the ship on time! She even had time to drop my older son off early so he could watch the USA-China basketball game on TV in his cabin. If I find myself doing another cruise in Europe, I will contact your company to set up the shore trips.
