Piraeus Shore Excursion

This half day Piraeus shore trip includes a scenic drive along the coast to the southern tip of Attica and Cape Sounion. You walk among the ruins of the Temple of Poseidon, god of the sea. This temple sits at the cliff's edge, high above the sea, offering dramatic views of the Saronic Gulf. This is a wonderful choice for anyone who does not enjoy big cities or too much walking.

After meeting your guide you begin your drive along the coast line passing popular resorts and beaches and enjoy splendid views of the sea and nearby mountains. Once you have arrived at the isolated Temple of Poseidon standing watch over the sea, your guide will unravel its fascinating history. On this ground the ancient Greeks worshiped their god of the sea, Poseidon. The temple was originally made up of 34 Doric style columns and today there are still 15 which are well preserved. You can walk along the ruins at the cliff's edge high above the sea and take in dramatic views of the surrounding heights and sparkling blue water.

There is a short amount of free time for relaxing in the cafe or exploring the site's gift shop before returning to your ship in Piraeus.

Mobility: Folding wheelchair OK, some areas of the site are not accessible (advance notice required)

We, my family of eight, just used Private Shore Trips for our Mediterranean cruise and I can not tell you how happy we were. Seeing those bus loads of people leaving the cruise ship for tours with no individual say on what they will see or do. Private Shore Trips worked with us, made each port of call unique to our taste. The guides where there waiting for us, each guide was knowledgeable about there city, the history and lay of the land. We saw and did things we would have never been able to do otherwise on 12 hour port of calls... The trip was excellent. We very much enjoyed all the guides. Having our own tour really made the trip. When we took one of the ships tours in Sicily the final day, it was no where near as good as having our own guilder. Thanks again so very much. We will be recommending Private Shore Trips and I am sure we will be utilizing your services again in the very near future.

Our tour in Athens was amazing, Costas was our tour guide and it made all the difference in the world. He was so knowledgeable about the Greek history it made it so much more meaningful. We had 8 in our tour and the van was great and we saw everything we wanted to see. Costas found us a wonderful place for lunch in Plaka, a real treat, tasting all the Greek foods.....it is the only way to tour, in a small group with someone from the area. I am sure we learned so much more on this private tour, then one of the ships shore excursions. I will definitely recommend your website and the next time we travel we will definitely be contacting you. Thanks again.
