TOUR DESCRIPTION

Piraeus Shore Excursion

This half day Piraeus shore trip includes a scenic drive along the coast to the southern tip of Attica and Cape Sounion. You walk among the ruins of the Temple of Poseidon, god of the sea. This temple sits at the cliff's edge, high above the sea, offering dramatic views of the Saronic Gulf. This is a wonderful choice for anyone who does not enjoy big cities or too much walking.

After meeting your guide you begin your drive along the coast line passing popular resorts and beaches and enjoy splendid views of the sea and nearby mountains. Once you have arrived at the isolated Temple of Poseidon standing watch over the sea, your guide will unravel its fascinating history. On this ground the ancient Greeks worshiped their god of the sea, Poseidon. The temple was originally made up of 34 Doric style columns and today there are still 15 which are well preserved. You can walk along the ruins at the cliff's edge high above the sea and take in dramatic views of the surrounding heights and sparkling blue water.

There is a short amount of free time for relaxing in the cafe or exploring the site's gift shop before returning to your ship in Piraeus.

Mobility: Folding wheelchair OK, some areas of the site are not accessible (advance notice required)

All the guides were very knowledgeable about each of the place we went (Rhodes, Athens and Katakolon). We wish we had more time in Greece. There are too many places in Greece to visit.

We had a wonderful voyage through the Aegean Sea and Greece. In general, all of our excursions and guides were fantastic. In every case, the guides were at the designated meeting areas before we arrived and easily identified with my name on a large sign. The drivers were professional, safe, and cautious, and the vehicles were clean and comfortable. We found the tour guides to be very friendly, knowledgeable, courteous, and flexible. Please find below the list of guides beginning with our favorite to least preferred 1. Ephesus - Yesim - ****** - very knowledgeable, deep depth of history, warm, personality plus (had lunch with us), she is the total package). 2. Athens  Loula - ***** - brilliant biblical scholar and archeologist, great listener and attentive to our interests, warm, engaging, very sweet lady. 3. MyconosDelos  Yolanda - ***** - brilliant, passionate, and exciting archeologist, expert on mythology, well-organized, fantastic teacher, engaging, captivating, high energy. 4. Olympia  Elena - **** - very friendly, knowledgeable of mythology and Olympia, very flexible, willing to spend as much time as we required. 5. Chania, Crete  Effy - **** knowledgeable, warm, great personality (had lunch with us), very flexible. We have nothing but very high marks for your service and help. I want to tell you how much we enjoyed the tour. I was with Giorgos. He was marvelous--so knowledgeable--no professor of ancient studies could have been better. Moreover, he had a wonderful sense of humor and was very kind and caring. Just a joy! I understand Penelope was a very good and knowledgeable guide as well. Thanks so much for making Athens a great experience.

I had to let you know that our trip was a huge success! All of the details that you organized for us were perfect! The shore excursions were wonderful! The tour guides were extremely professional and knowledgeable. They not only shared their expertise on the history of the area, they also provided us with the   local flavor   by planning several lunches for our group. We were thrilled with the personal attention and opportunity to experience fabulous food away from the other tourists! We enjoyed each and every excursion. The drivers were courteous and the guides were much more than we ever expected! Again, thank you for making our trip the huge success that it was!

Thank you so much for your assistance in organizing our tour in Athens. Our guide, Mariza, was very knowledgeable and made our brief visit delightful. She included many details of interesting information with her narration and was very helpful with our plans to stay in the Plaka area. Some of our group choose to go back to the ship so she accompanied them after helping us with details of how to return to the ship. Some of group felt she spoke so rapidly that they had difficulty understanding her at first - later, they said when she was talking directly to the group and not on the bus that there was no problem. Please extend to her our thanks and greetings. I will certainly recommend your services to our clients and hope to be able to take advantage of Private Shore Trips guides in the future.
