Piraeus Shore Excursion

This half day Piraeus shore trip visits the archaeological site of Ancient Corinth. Your visit through this once rich and powerful city includes the Temple of Apollo. An added bonus is a photo stop to see the amazing Corinth Canal.

After meeting your private guide, you drive to the once rich and powerful city of Ancient Corinth. The city was blessed with a superb location and fertile plains making it virtually an impregnable refuge. Excavations reveal that the ancient city was huge and wealthy. It survived numerous invasions but was ultimately brought down by earthquakes. St. Paul lived and worked in Corinth for 18 months, making converts where he could and leaving for posterity the Bible's Letters to the Corinthians. The Bema (platform) where the Roman governor tried him is still visible.

You'll see one of Corinth's most striking ancient buildings, the Temple of Apollo, seven of whose original columns are still standing. You'll walk through the remains of the Market Place, a colonnaded square once surrounded by many small shops, and see the celebrated Fountain of Priene, which has produced water since the earliest times, and the Lechaion Road, formerly the main thoroughfare to the port of Lechaion.

On the way back to Athens / Piraeus, you enjoy a photo stop at the Corinth Canal. The concept of cutting a canal through the Isthmus of Corinth to link the Ionian and Aegean seas was first proposed by the tyrant Periander, founder of Ancient Corinth. The magnitude of the task defeated him, so he opted instead to built a paved slipway across which sailors dragged small ships on rollers, a method used until the 13th century. Nero, Rome's most infamous emperor, inaugurated an attempt in 67 AD with his golden spade, but it was finally completed in 1893. You walk across a bridge over the canal which is now used for smaller commercial ships and private yachts.

I just wanted to let you know what a fantastic time we had in Greece and Turkey. The drivers and guides were prompt, smartly dressed and very courteous. Their English was excellent and knowledge of the areas we were touring, superb. The vehicles were also very clean and comfortable. I cannot thank you enough for making our visits to these places a once in a lifetime experience. I will certainly be recommending you to all my friends.

I just wanted to give you a big thumbs up for everything that happened to make this trip into Athens perfect. The transfers went off without a hitch and all of your people were great. I did not hear one negative word of feedback. Im not sure who our guide was yesterday she said her name was Mirta but she was outstanding - the city tour and the guide of the museum was great and the lunch stop was a really big hit. The food was terrific and we had a really superb time. Today the bus to the pier was there right on time and in fact here we sit at the pier and we are early. It was a superb experience using private shore tours please give my thanks to everybody involved it was great!

The guide was absolutely superb. Alexandra was nice, intelligent, and informative. We loved her. Turkey was also wonderful. I am very impressed with the way you handled things. We had set up a couple tours elsewhere with someone else and were not happy at all. Thanks for everything.

All of our tours were just fantatic.  In Athens, the Acropolis was simply awesome and we had a wonderful time in the Plaka.  I wish we could have had lunch in one of those roof top bars.  That would have been awesome.  In Katakolon, the farm you recommended was so nice, peaceful and the hosts were so welcoming.  The other tours in Greece were great but those were the highlights for us.  Thank you also for telling the guide to walk slowly - my mother appreciated it.

We just got back in Venice and on our way to Rome. The shore excursions went very well. The local guides were good and flexible to the needs of the group as some have mobility issues. Thank you for the good service. Rest assured that we will highly recommend your company to our friends. Till our next trip, Best regards,
