This full-day 8-hour private tour combines two of Palma's separate half-day excursions: the Dragon's Cave and the Highlights of Palma.
Your day begins with the drive across the island to Porto Cristo, a small fishing village on Mallorca's eastern coast, home to the Cuevas del Drach, or Caves of the Dragon. First mentioned in records as far back as 1338, the caves were properly explored and mapped in 1896, when French speleologist Edouard-Alfred Martel charted the underground lake now named Lake Martel in his honor, one of the largest underground lakes in the world. You walk through illuminated chambers of stalactites and stalagmites, more than a mile in total length, with ceilings reaching over 80 feet high in places, before boarding a boat to cross Lake Martel while musicians perform live classical music from boats on the water.
From the caves, you stop at a pearl workshop that has operated on the island since the late 1890s, with the option to instead visit an olive wood craft workshop or a glass-blowing studio, before returning to Palma.
Back in the city, you have free time for lunch (not included) before an afternoon walking tour of the old town. You visit the Cathedral of Santa Maria, known as La Seu, ordered built in 1230 under King Jaume I and largely completed by 1601 in the Levantine Gothic style. The cathedral rises directly above the old city walls, giving the impression from the sea that it grows straight out of the water. Your day finishes at Bellver Castle, a circular Gothic fortress built in 1309, one of the only circular castles in Spain, which served as a military prison from 1717 until 1938. From its hilltop position, you get sweeping views over Palma and the Sierra de Tramuntana before returning to the pier.
