Bar, Montenegro Shore Excursion

This half day Bar, Montenegro shore trip includes a visit to the ancient town of Stari Bar and a visit to Lake Skadar National Park where you enjoy a private boat excursion to see her beauty.

Your tour starts with a visit to Stari Bar, or Old Bar, an ancient town located in Montenegro, near the Adriatic coast. A visit here is like stepping back in time, offering a blend of history, culture, and scenic beauty. The town dates back to Roman times and has seen influences from various civilizations, including the Byzantine, Venetian, and Ottoman empires.

Your guide will lead you on a walking tour of the ruins and share plenty of stories about its past. Some of the places seen on the walking tour include the Main town entrance, Kaldrma Street and St. Nikola church. Looming over the town is the ancient fortress which dates back to the 9th century. Just outside of town you will see the 16th century aqueduct that used to supply water to the town.

We will continue our tour by driving to Skadar Lake. You will enjoy the beauty of the largest national park in Montenegro, as well as one of the largest lakes in Europe, which also boasts one of the richest bird refuges in Europe. In addition to herons and wild ducks, the lake is home to the endangered species the “shaggy pelican” which is the emblem of the National Park.

The area around the lake has numerous historical and cultural sites, many churches and monasteries, fortresses and picturesque old villages. The jagged shore of the lake is lined with numerous coves and colorful fishing settlements. You will enjoy a private boat tour to take in all of the lake's beauty. A light snack is also provided during your boat excursion.

Later today you are brought back to the cruise pier in Bar, Montenegro.
