Reykjavik Shore Excursion

This Reykjavik shore trip of the Reykjanes Peninsula offers a dramatic and otherworldly journey through Iceland's raw, volcanic beauty. This is a perfect adventure for those looking to explore beyond the well-traveled Golden Circle route.

After meeting your guide at the pier in Reykjavik you start the drive and then nestled among volcanic hills you see Kleifarvatn Lake. This is one of Iceland’s deepest lakes, formed by tectonic activity and surrounded by stark lava fields. It's a great place for peaceful photography and observing the solitude of Iceland’s untamed landscapes including black sand beaches and minimal vegetation.

Nearby is the Krýsuvík Geothermal Area. This geothermal field bubbles with energy and offers the chance to walk among steaming vents, mud pots, and sulfur deposits. Wooden walking paths lead safely around boiling mud pools and steam vents. You will see vibrant colors in the soil including yellows, reds, and greens caused by mineral deposits. To add to the sensory experience there are geothermal smells.

Next you drive to the Reykjanes Lighthouse. The Reykjanes Lighthouse was built in 1907 on Baejarfell hill to replace a previous one, which was the first Lighthouse in Iceland. Today this lighthouse is considered the most popular lighthouse among Icelanders. You will enjoy the seabirds and crashing waves of the Atlantic.

There is also a stop at Gunnuhver which is a massive, steaming geothermal area, named after a vengeful ghost. It is one of Iceland’s most powerful geothermal sites.

Your final stop today is the Bridge between two continents. This area of Iceland shows the evidence of diverging plates between the North American and European continents. You have the chance to walk over a small bridge from one continent to the next.

At the end of the tour you are brought back to the pier in Reykjavik .
