TOUR DESCRIPTION

Lisbon City & Food Tasting Shore Excursion

If this is your first time in Lisbon, this tour is built to give you an overview of the city's landmarks alongside a running taste of what Lisbon actually eats and drinks.

After meeting your guide, you travel along Avenida da Liberdade toward the old town, stopping at two viewpoints: Lisbon's Cathedral, the oldest church in the city, and the Graca miradouro, which has one of the best views over the city and the Tagus River.

From there you pass the Monastery of Sao Vicente, the Alfama district where fado music was born, the National Pantheon, and Comercio Square before heading to Belem, one of Lisbon's most historically dense neighborhoods.

Belem's landmarks were built to honor Portugal's Age of Discovery. Your first stop is Belem Tower, built between 1514 and 1520 under King Manuel I to guard the mouth of the Tagus, and the point from which Vasco da Gama's ships once departed. It has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1983. Nearby stands the Monument of the Discoveries, built to honor Portugal's navigators and to mark the 500th anniversary of the death of Henry the Navigator.

Your next stop is Jeronimos Monastery, begun in 1501 under King Manuel I and also UNESCO listed since 1983. Its small chapel is where Vasco da Gama and his crew spent the night in prayer before departing for India, and the riches from those voyages helped pay for the monastery's construction. Before leaving Belem, you get an included taste of the original Pastel de Belem, the cinnamon dusted custard tart the neighborhood is famous for.

Heading back toward the city center, you pass the Basilica of Estrela, the Parliament building, and the Bairro Alto and Chiado districts before parking in the Baixa district, where you take a short walk through Lisbon's grand squares: Rossio, Figueira, and Restauradores. While in Baixa, you taste a glass of vinho verde with a codfish cake, finishing with a glass of Port wine.

At the end of the tour, your driver guide returns you to the pier or your hotel.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do Lisbon tours include a Back-to-Ship Guarantee?
We back every Lisbon tour with our Back-to-Ship Guarantee. If a delay caused by our tour operator keeps you from returning to the ship on time, we'll arrange and cover your transportation to catch up with the ship at its next port of call. To qualify, your tour needs to be scheduled to return at least 1.5 hours before the ship's departure, and you'll need to be back at the vehicle for every agreed meeting time during the day.
How much deposit is required to book a Lisbon tour?
To hold a Lisbon booking, we collect a $50 deposit per tour. The remaining balance is due 30 days before your tour date. If your plans change, that deposit isn't refundable, but it stays on your account as credit toward any tour for up to 3 years. Larger groups, custom itineraries, or tours involving flights or overnight stays may carry a bigger deposit and their own terms, which we'll spell out at booking.
What is the cancellation policy for Lisbon tours?
You're refunded -- minus a $50 admin fee -- for Lisbon cancellations made 15+ days out. Inside 14 days of the tour date, cancellations become non-refundable. One exception: if your ship simply doesn't call at Lisbon because of weather, mechanical issues, or political unrest, you'll get a full refund less the $50 fee. All cancellation requests need to be submitted in writing by email.
Where do we meet our driver or guide in Lisbon?
Cruise Ship: Once you disembark at Lisbon, head to the terminal's main public exit. If there's a terminal building, walk through the arrivals area to the public pickup zone outside -- cruise staff can point you the right way. No terminal building means your driver will already be waiting dockside as you disembark. Don't see your contact right away? Stay near your exit point and call the local dispatch number from your confirmation. Hotel: Your driver or guide will be waiting either just outside the main entrance or inside the lobby, sign in hand with your group's name. Airport: Once you've collected your luggage and cleared customs, head into the arrivals hall -- your driver or guide will be there holding a sign with your group name.
Are entrance fees included in Lisbon tours, and are they refundable?
Entrance fees are included wherever it's noted on the Lisbon tour page. A few attractions require timed skip-the-line tickets, which turn non-refundable as soon as they're bought -- we'll let you know about any of these at booking.
Can we customize the itinerary on our Lisbon shore excursion?
Flexibility is one of the real perks of a private Lisbon tour. Let your driver or guide know about a must-see spot right at pickup, and they'll try to make it happen -- though traffic and scheduling sometimes cap what's possible. Either way, they'll keep the day as tailored as they can.

Also Available:

›Sintra and Pena Palace - For a longer day focused on Sintra's palaces instead of Lisbon itself, this 6-hour tour visits the National Pena Palace.

We booked a few tours at last minute from our cruise ship as our Oceania shore excursions were pretty bad. We arranged our trip through Steven by email and Internet was spotty on the ship. He was quick to respond and was able to customize our trip for the day. We had 3 couples and Ynne was our guide. He was the best guide that we had had during our 12 day trip.
