TOUR DESCRIPTION

Kadriorg Palace & Tallinn Shore Excursion

This tour pairs a quick introduction to medieval Tallinn with an afternoon in a completely different architectural world: an 18th century Russian imperiAdmission costs are covered on Tallinn tours whenever the tour page says so. Keep in mind some venues require timed, skip-the-line tickets that become non-refundable the moment they're purchased. We'll flag any non-refundable entrance fees for you at booking.al palace.

Your guide meets you at the pier for a short drive around the city walls into the Lower Old Town, where a brief walking tour takes in Old Town Hall Square and enough history to set the stage for the rest of the day. This is meant as an introduction rather than the full Old Town experience, since the palace is this tour's real focus.

From the Old Town you drive toward Kadriorg, with a photo stop along the way at the ruins of Pirita Abbey and the vast open-air stage of the Tallinn Song Festival Grounds, built to hold tens of thousands of singers during Estonia's national song festivals. Kadriorg itself is a secluded district of forested parkland, statues, and ponds, built around the palace that gives the neighborhood its name (Kadriorg means Catherine's Valley in Estonian). Emperor Peter the Great commissioned the Baroque palace in 1721 as a gift for his wife, Empress Catherine I, and it served as their summer residence. Surrounded by manicured gardens and fountains, the palace and its grounds remain one of the finest examples of early 18th century Russian architecture outside Russia itself. Your guide walks you through the palace and gardens before returning you to the pier in Tallinn.

Frequently Asked Questions

Who was Kadriorg Palace built for?
Peter the Great commissioned it in 1721 as a gift for his wife, Empress Catherine I. The name Kadriorg means Catherine's Valley in Estonian.
What are the Tallinn Song Festival Grounds?
An enormous open-air stage and grounds built to hold tens of thousands of singers during Estonia's national song festivals, a major part of Estonian cultural identity. You pass it on the drive to Kadriorg.
Do we get a full Old Town tour on this trip?
No, this tour includes a shorter Old Town introduction so that more time can be spent at Kadriorg Palace and Park. For the full walking tour, the Old Town of Tallinn tour is a better fit.
Is Kadriorg Palace still used today?
It now houses part of the Art Museum of Estonia's collection, though the palace and its Baroque gardens are the main draw for most visitors.
Can we add a stop to our Tallinn tour that isn't on the standard itinerary?
Private Tallinn tours are meant to bend to your priorities, not the other way around. Mention any must-see sight to your driver or guide at pickup, and they'll do their best to work it in. Traffic and time constraints can occasionally limit how much we can change, but your guide will always try to keep things personal.

Also Available:

›The Old Town of Tallinn - For the full, in-depth Old Town walking tour instead, this 4-hour tour covers Toompea Castle, Alexander Nevsky Cathedral, and St Mary's Cathedral.

›Best of Estonia - For a longer day covering the full Old Town plus rural Estonia, this 8-hour tour combines both instead of Kadriorg.

We had great tour. Eero was fantastic. He showed us all the sights, was very good with my dad (who had to use a wheelchair) and even helped us with a little snack at an outdoor caf. A great time!

I have been meaning to get in touch and letting you know that all private tours were right on time even though after reconfirming from the hotel in Copenhagen my German phone never worked, so I was a bit concerned how it would work out but they were all there, were professional and helpful and with the three boys it was the best decision I made about the whole trip to have the private tours. I knew this cruise would not be the perfect itinerary for teen age boys but I think the guides we had made it work, adjusted the programs tour over the city rather than the city tour as it would have given the boys a thrill and me the kind of overview of the city one could not get from a car. I dont mean it complaining, it is more hindsight on my part. I would recommend Private tours to anyone with a small group, as the flexibility and advantage of passing all the long long line ups for all the larger groups and sneaking in ahead of them was worth alone the extra cost. On top of it the flexibility was just priceless for the boys. I have less good things to say about the cruise line, found the ship not well organized and not at all helpful for anyone not wanting their tours and giving the rest of us wrong information about landing procedures at least 12 the time. Well, I have learned a lot and even though I will never be a total cruise fan, the baltic itinerary is really very informative if one prepares oneself as there was little or no advanced information on the destination ports given to us from the ship itself. So, thanks for your helpful service, I would recommend booking private tours to anyone!! You are welcome to quote my recommendation if needed.

We really enjoy all the tours that you booked for us. Really made our trip that much more enjoyable and we were able to cover a lot more ground. All the tour guides were absolutely wonderful. I will definitely refer you to anyone that is going to Europe. I just wish you covered more than Europe!
