If your interests lean toward the coast, Antibes is the closest stop, about 20 minutes from Cannes, where a walk along the 16th century sea ramparts leads past the private yacht harbor favored by the Riviera's wealthiest visitors and into a covered Provencal market for local cheese, produce and leather goods. Continuing east, Nice offers its daily flower market in the old town (closed Mondays, when a flea market takes over instead) and a stretch of the Promenade des Anglais, the seafront walkway that runs the length of the city's beach. Monaco and Monte Carlo sit furthest away, about 1.5 hours from Cannes, and are best paired together rather than with a third stop: Monaco's old town centers on the Prince's Palace, and since vehicles cannot enter Monaco itself, your driver drops you off and arranges a meeting point instead, while Monte Carlo is where you can drive a stretch of the Grand Prix circuit and photograph the Casino from the boutique lined park across the street. Villefranche-sur-Mer and Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat, both about 1 hour 15 minutes away, suit guests who want a quieter coastal pair: Villefranche is a working fishing harbor beneath a hilltop citadel, while Cap Ferrat is home to two grand villas open for touring, with separate admission fees for each.
For a day in the hills instead, Gourdon and Grasse sit less than an hour from Cannes and pair naturally together: Gourdon is a former castle village perched above the Gorges du Loup, and Grasse is the historic center of the French perfume industry, with several perfume houses offering free factory tours. Mougins, about 25 minutes away, adds a stop built around food rather than sightseeing, a hilltop village of restaurants and a well known cooking school. St Paul de Vence, about 50 minutes from Cannes, is a walled medieval town of art galleries and cafes just outside its ramparts, and Eze, roughly 1 hour 15 minutes away, is a pedestrian only village whose steep climb from the parking area is not recommended for guests with limited mobility (the nearby Fragonard perfume shop is a seated alternative if you would rather skip the walk). Tourrettes-sur-Loup, about 1 hour from Cannes, sits near the Florian candy factory, where a free tour shows how the region's flowers are turned into candy and jam.
