Arrecife is centrally located on the eastern coast of Lanzarote island. The name of the port city comes from the word rock because of the rocky reefs along the coast. There are two primary ports that cruise ships come into so it can be difficult to plan an independent excursion. The Los Marmoles port is about 6 miles from the center of town and the La Boca port is much closer, about half mile from town. If you plan to spend your time in town be warned that most shops and restaurants are closed between 1 and 5 pm for siesta.
