Villefranche Shore Excursion

This Villefranche shore trip visits both Italian and French Rivieras. Your driver-guide takes you to a local Italian market where you can shop for food (think cheese & wine) or clothes (think leather goods). Then you visit the charming Italian village of Dolceacqua and the seaside French town of Menton.

After meeting your driver-guide at the pier in Villefranche, you drive along the coast towards the Italian border. Your first stop today is either in Sanremo or Ventimiglia, depending on which town is hosting a local market. Sanremo's market days are Tuesday and Saturday and the largest market is in Ventimiglia on Friday. On these days you can shop for local fruits, vegetables, cheeses, meats but also Italian leather goods (shoes, hand bags, belts) and clothing, all at a fraction of the cost in stores.

Next you visit the charming medieval village of Dolceacqua which is also located in the Italian Riviera but very close to the border with France. This village is dominated by its 13th century castle. You stop for a visit to take in the local charm and have free time for lunch (meal not included).

Finally you drive back into France to the town of Menton, well known as the city of Gardens and Beaches. The old town dates back to the 13th century and is a maze of narrow little streets which wind down from the old castle to the sea. Menton is also well known for its Lemon Festival so be sure to sample some form of a lemon treat.

At the end of this Villefranche day trip you are brought back to the pier or your hotel.
