Start your trip to Trieste with a private one way transfer from Venice Marco Polo Airport (VCE) directly to your hotel or cruise terminal in Trieste, about 93 miles (150km) away. Your professional English speaking driver waits in the arrivals hall with a name sign, so there is no need to arrange a taxi, shuttle, or public transport connection after your flight lands.

We monitor your flight before dispatching your driver, so a delay or early landing does not affect your pickup, and meeting instructions are provided in advance. If your flight is severely delayed, please contact our Trieste dispatch office using the contact information included in your confirmation voucher. Each private transfer includes a vehicle sized to your group with space for one suitcase and one personal item, such as a backpack or purse, per person. If your group needs additional luggage space or expects extra waiting time at the airport, please contact us in advance for a quote, since those needs are handled outside the standard transfer and are at your own expense.

About VCE Airport

Venice Marco Polo Airport takes its name from the 13th century Venetian merchant and explorer Marco Polo. It was built on reclaimed marshland beside the lagoon near the village of Tessera, with land reclamation starting in 1958, and opened to passengers on July 31, 1961. A modern three story terminal was completed in 2002, with arrivals on the ground floor and departures one level up. Today VCE is the main international gateway to Venice, located about 4.7 miles (7.5km) northeast of the city center, and handles more than 11 million passengers a year on airlines that include easyJet, Ryanair, Wizz Air, and Volotea.

About Trieste the Cruise Terminal

Trieste's cruise ships dock at the Stazione Marittima, the Maritime Station on Molo IV, right along the waterfront a short walk from Piazza dell'Unita d'Italia. The building was designed by architects Umberto Nordio and Giacomo Zammattio, constructed between 1926 and 1930 on the site of a former Austro-Hungarian era wine warehouse, and officially opened on October 28, 1930. It is 100 meters long and 40 meters high, faced with a monumental facade, and today handles cruise lines including Costa, MSC, and TUI.

About Trieste the Town

Trieste's history stretches back to the Roman era, when Julius Caesar recorded the town as the colony of Tergeste in 51 BC, a name rooted in an older Venetic word for market. After centuries of conflict with the Republic of Venice, the people of Trieste voluntarily placed themselves under the protection of the Habsburgs in 1382, beginning more than 500 years of Austrian rule. In the 18th century Emperor Charles VI declared Trieste a free port, a status that held until 1891 and turned the city into a cosmopolitan trading hub, earning it the nickname Vienna by the Sea. Irish writer James Joyce lived in Trieste for over a decade in the early 1900s and began work on Ulysses there. After the Second World War, Trieste and its surroundings briefly became the United Nations administered Free Territory of Trieste before the city itself returned to Italy in 1954. Its centerpiece, Piazza dell'Unita d'Italia, covers about 12,280 square meters facing the Adriatic and is often cited as the largest square in Europe directly on the sea. Today Trieste is the capital of the Friuli Venezia Giulia region, known for its coffee culture and historic cafes, its blend of Italian, Austrian, and Slavic influences, and the strong bora wind that sweeps down from the Karst plateau in winter.
