TOUR DESCRIPTION

London Highlights from Southampton to London Private Tour

This private tour starts in London and ends at the cruise pier in Southampton, 78 miles (126km) to the southwest. After meeting your licensed guide, you set out on a driving tour with photo stops at London's top landmarks. Sites typically included are Westminster Abbey, the Houses of Parliament, Big Ben, Buckingham Palace, the London Eye, the Tower of London, Piccadilly Circus and Leicester Square. The exact route depends on your interests and on traffic conditions that day.

Partway through the tour you stop for lunch (meal not included). A traditional pub serving fish and chips with an English ale is a popular choice, and London's Indian restaurants are another local favorite. If you would rather stop for high tea, most hotels serve it between 3 and 6 PM.

After your time in London, your driver takes you to Southampton for your ship's departure.

Mobility: a folding wheelchair can be accommodated, though some sites may be inaccessible. Please give advance notice if this applies to your group.

If this itinerary does not fit your plans, our London tours and London shore excursions can be customized. For larger groups, we can arrange a private tour using a mid-size bus or full-size coach. Contact us with any questions or for a custom quote.

Frequently Asked Questions

How far is Southampton from London?
Southampton is approximately 120 kilometers southwest of London - about 1.5 hours by road depending on traffic. This tour drives you into London for a city tour before dropping you at your hotel or Heathrow Airport.
Are entrance fees included in this tour?
This tour is a driving tour with photo stops and does not include entrance fees to any attractions. It is designed to give you an overview of London's landmarks efficiently within the available time.
Can I choose between airport and hotel drop-off for my Southampton tour?
Whether you'd rather be dropped at London Heathrow Airport or your London hotel is up to you -- just confirm your preference during booking.
Do Southampton tours include a Back-to-Ship Guarantee?
Yes, and it's built into every Southampton tour we run -- the Back-to-Ship Guarantee. If a delay caused by our tour operator keeps you from returning to the ship on time, we'll arrange and cover your transportation to catch up with the ship at its next port of call. To qualify, your tour needs to be scheduled to return at least 1.5 hours before the ship's departure, and you'll need to be back at the vehicle for every agreed meeting time during the day.
How much deposit is required to book a Southampton tour?
Booking a Southampton tour requires a $50 deposit up front. The remaining balance is due 30 days before your tour date. If your plans change, that deposit isn't refundable, but it stays on your account as credit toward any tour for up to 3 years. Larger groups, custom itineraries, or tours involving flights or overnight stays may carry a bigger deposit and their own terms, which we'll spell out at booking.
What is the cancellation policy for Southampton tours?
As long as you cancel your Southampton tour 15 days or more in advance, you get a refund minus $50. Inside 14 days of the tour date, cancellations become non-refundable. One exception: if your ship simply doesn't call at Southampton because of weather, mechanical issues, or political unrest, you'll get a full refund less the $50 fee. All cancellation requests need to be submitted in writing by email.
Where do we meet our driver or guide in Southampton?
Cruise Ship: When you get off the ship in Southampton, look for the terminal's main public exit. If a terminal building is present, go through arrivals to the outdoor pickup area -- cruise staff will help direct you. If not, your driver will be waiting right on the dock. Can't find your contact? Stay near where you exited and call the local dispatch number on your confirmation. Hotel: Look for your driver or guide right outside the main entrance or in the lobby -- they'll be holding a sign with your group name. Airport: Once you've collected your luggage and cleared customs, head into the arrivals hall -- your driver or guide will be there holding a sign with your group name.
Are entrance fees included in Southampton tours, and are they refundable?
You'll find entrance fees bundled in for Southampton tours where the tour page states it. Keep in mind some venues require timed, skip-the-line tickets that become non-refundable the moment they're purchased. We'll flag any non-refundable entrance fees for you at booking.
Can we customize the itinerary on our Southampton shore excursion?
That's the advantage of going private in Southampton -- the day can adjust to you. Mention any must-see sight to your driver or guide at pickup, and they'll do their best to work it in. Traffic and time constraints can occasionally limit how much we can change, but your guide will always try to keep things personal.

Our trip was wonderful! Our pick up at the airport, two tours, and transportation to the pier all went well. I would definitely use your company again for future travel needs.

Again, Private Shore Trips did not disappoint. Been using them since 2009. Steven is so great to work with - and his team of tour guides all over Europe have been amazing. This time we used them in London, Edinburgh, Glasgow and Belfast. David in London, Ricky in Edinburgh, Ricky and Graeme in Glasgow and Paul in Belfast. All were personable, friendly, very knowledgeable, and flexible.

Sorry for the delay in replying.. I was not getting emails However, as you can tell by my replying, Im back successfully  --- I did hear from the local operators early on that morning and the return transfer to Heathrow worked like a charm.   In fact, we got on the road at 630 am exactly and were at Heathrow by 820 --- plenty of time for everyone to check in comfortably.     I think the only issue was the Hotel to Port transfer.    THANKFULLY, I requested to have the transfer pick up time a little earlier.  As it happened, traffic (as always for London) factored in and they were more than half an hour late.. For that group movement,  I think they may have misunderstood how the passenger counts were supposed to be ---- they thought the 8-pax mini van was solely for luggage.  It was uncomfortable with them squeezing bags in the 30-pax coach and the leftover in the other vehicle.  As it happened, we sent one person in that car with the driver and every seat  including the jump seat usually reserved for a tour guide  was filled on the coach.    Traffic was still an issue and it ended up being over 90 minutes before we even reached the highway --- London is so big and the roads are all city driving until you can access the main system out of the city.  Was nerve-wracking --- but, silver lining --- the huge global snafu with the system effected countless people, including those (not related to us!) arriving for the cruise and who still had to travel from the airports..  this chain reaction allowed for the cruise line to delay sailing in order to wait for the late-comers.  Our group arrived around 330 which was remarkable, seeing how much time we consumed just in getting there.     That was the only hiccup. Our guided sightseeing tour of London was wonderful --- Konrad, our Blue Badge Guide --- absolutely fantastic  did a great job for us --- everyone who participated in the tour loved it and commented very favorably.    Despite iffy weather reports, we dodged rain the entire trip except for brief sprinkles  not bad for England, Scotland , Iceland and especially Ireland.   I want to mention that I appreciated the contact between the local operators and me. I received text and phone messages as needed, which is a huge relief  instead of waiting around and not sure who youre looking for ---- this eased my nerves and enabled me to communicate more comfortably with my group members. Thank you so very much for helping with the arrangements.      Except for the little snafu with the first transfer  which was resolved  all else went like clockwork.

Thanks for asking. They were good. The first driver was really nice and helpful and a good guy. The other driver was fine but not as nice. He was fine though and both were on time and the vehicles were comfortable as well. Very happy we chose you as both worked out great.

We want to thank you for the great job you did on planning and organizing our trip to Europe. The eight of us had a great time as well as being pleasantly surprised at how well the trip was organized, how gracious our drivers and guides were how pertinent your suggestions were. We will be having friends go in the spring and will be referring them to you.
