TOUR DESCRIPTION

Nice, Monaco & Eze Shore Excursion from Villefranche - 6 Hours

This Villefranche shore trip visits the most popular coastal towns on the French Riviera: Nice, Monaco, Monte Carlo and Eze. Your driver-guide takes you to Nice's Old Town, the Royal Palace and Cathedral in Monaco, the Grand Prix route and Casino of Monte Carlo, and the medieval hilltop village of Eze.

After meeting your driver-guide at the pier in Villefranche, you drive west toward Nice, passing the town's own Rade, one of the deepest natural harbors in the Mediterranean and once home port to the US Sixth Fleet from 1948 to 1966. Once in Nice, you drive down La Promenade des Anglais, the famous palm tree lined street that parallels the most famous beach on the Riviera, before free time in the Old Town to walk through the flower market (closed Mondays, when a flea market takes place).

Leaving Nice, you follow the Lower Corniche road, which hugs the dramatic rocky coastline, until you reach the hilltop medieval village of Eze. This pedestrian only village of tiny stone lanes clings to the cliffs over 1,000 feet above the sea, connected to the coast below by the Chemin de Nietzsche, a footpath that predates its name but took on the philosopher's identity after his stays here in 1883 and 1884, when he composed part of Thus Spoke Zarathustra. There is time to walk to the hilltop garden for sweeping sea views, browse the boutiques, or enjoy an ice cream. Please note you must leave the van at the base of the village and walk up a steep hill into town, which is not recommended for anyone with limited mobility; the nearby Fragonard perfume factory is a relaxed alternative if you prefer.

Later you visit the Principality of Monaco, where you have free time to explore the old town, see the Royal Palace, and stroll through the Cathedral where Princess Grace is buried (no bare shoulders or shorts above the knee are permitted inside). Next you drive the route of the legendary Monaco Grand Prix, where your driver-guide will point out some of the circuit's famous hairpin turns, before arriving in Monte Carlo. The Casino sits across from a park lined with designer boutiques and luxury hotels, and the surrounding streets are typically full of some of the most expensive cars in the world.

At the end of this popular Villefranche shore excursion, you return to the port, with one or two panoramic photo stops along the way.

Please note
  • During the Grand Prix Events there is a 50% supplement and it is not possible to visit Monaco or Monte Carlo from June 4-7, 2026. Please contact us if you are interested in a tour during this period.
  • About the Casino of Monte Carlo - The Casino of Monte Carlo is open to tourists for viewing from 10 AM until 12 noon. During this period the entry fee is 20 Euro per person and no gaming is open. From 2 PM onwards the casino is open to individuals (not tour groups) and a formal dress code is enforced. During this period an entry ticket is required to access the gaming areas, including the slots, craps and Black Jack tables. You must show your passport to buy the ticket, and 10 Euro of the ticket price is returned to use at the slot machines or at the bar. Everyone must be 18 years or older and have their passport available.

Frequently Asked Questions

How does the route differ starting from Villefranche instead of Monaco?
From Villefranche you head west toward Nice first, since it's practically next door, then loop back east along the Lower Corniche to reach Eze, about 25 minutes away, before continuing on to Monaco and Monte Carlo. It's a different direction of travel than the Monte Carlo version of this same tour, but covers the same four stops.
Is Eze accessible if someone in our group has mobility issues?
It's genuinely not ideal for that: the vehicle stops at the base of the village and reaching the hilltop core means a walk up a steep hill. If that's a concern, the Fragonard perfume factory near the village entrance is a relaxed alternative your guide can suggest instead.
What will we see of the Monaco Grand Prix route?
Your driver-guide takes you along the actual Formula 1 circuit streets used in the Monaco Grand Prix, pointing out some of its famous hairpin turns, giving you a feel for the race even outside race season.
Is the Nice flower market always open when we visit?
Not on Mondays; that's when a flea market takes over the same spot instead. Your guide will let you know what's running that day.
Is this a private tour for our group only?
Yes, private the whole day, with your own English-speaking driver-guide.

Today was our last excursion booked through your company. The trips in Florence and Nice were both great, with good hosts. But by far the best guide was Tom today in Kotor. He is excellent and I cannot say enough good about his knowledge and demeanor. 5 stars for him. Thanks for all

We had a fabulous afternoon with Alan. We traveled from Villefranche to Eze to Monte Carlo and then back through Nice before being returned to the port. Alan provided a great tour and gave us plenty of opportunities to stop and enjoy each place we visited. We likely disappointed him as we didnt take advantage of the free time that he was offering in Monte Carlo near the casino. Walking the streets of Monte Carlo near the palace and church where Grace Kelly and Prince Rainier were married was lovely and informative. As was, the market area in Nice where we stopped at a cafe for a drink (Alan passed on joining us). And, we were very glad that he was driving on those narrow, sometimes crowded roads! It was such an enjoyable experience, we will certainly keep Private Shore Trips in mind when we next travel to Europe! Thanks for the opportunity to see so much of the Frances Gold Coast.

This was the best tour that we had on our cruise. There was a total of 6 couples and Greg took care of all of us with another driver too. He was understandable, courteous, and very knowledgeable of Monaco, Monte Carlo, Nice, & Eze. He was able to cover all of these sights within our timeline with the ship. The Norwegian Ship did not offer this excursion. Greg and his other driver stopped for many photo shoots. I would highly recommend
