TOUR DESCRIPTION

Arrabida Natural Park Wine Tasting Shore Excursion from Lisbon

This full-day Lisbon tour is built for guests who want to see the city in the morning and spend the afternoon in wine country, rather than a full afternoon walking Lisbon's old town.

Your guide meets you at the port and drives along Avenida da Liberdade toward the historic center, with photo stops at Lisbon's Cathedral and the Graca viewpoint over the city and the Tagus River, then past the Alfama district, the National Pantheon, and Comercio Square on the way to Belem. There you see Belem Tower, built under King Manuel I between 1514 and 1520 and UNESCO listed since 1983, and the nearby Monument of the Discoveries. You also visit Jeronimos Monastery, begun in 1501, where Vasco da Gama's crew once prayed before their voyage to India, and enjoy an included taste of the original Pastel de Belem tart before a short stop in the Baixa district for a glass of Port wine.

In the afternoon, you leave the city behind and drive toward Palmela, where you have the option to climb the town's castle tower for sweeping views. From there you continue into the hills of the Arrabida wine region, stopping at a family owned wine farm in the heart of Arrabida Natural Park for a tour of the cellar and a tasting of 4 local wines.

After the tasting, you drive up to the highest point of Arrabida Natural Park, roughly 1,500 feet above sea level, for panoramic photos over the coast. Your last stop is Cristo Rei, the monument inspired by Rio de Janeiro's Christ the Redeemer statue, for a final view over Lisbon before returning to the pier across the 25 de Abril Bridge.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many wines do we taste at the Arrabida winery?
The tasting includes 4 local wines at a family owned winery in the heart of Arrabida Natural Park, along with a short tour of the cellar.
Is climbing Palmela Castle Tower included?
It is optional. If you are interested, your guide can arrange a stop to climb the tower for photos, weather and timing permitting.
What is Cristo Rei?
It is a monument overlooking Lisbon from across the Tagus River, inspired by Rio de Janeiro's statue of Christ the Redeemer, and it is your last stop before crossing back over the 25 de Abril Bridge.
Is this a lot of driving?
Yes, this is a full day covering both the city and the Arrabida coastline, with more time in the vehicle than the shorter Lisbon-only tours, but the pace includes plenty of stops to get out and explore.

Also Available:

›A Taste of Lisbon - If wine country is not for you, this 4-hour version covers the same Lisbon and Belem landmarks with local food and wine tastings.

We booked a few tours at last minute from our cruise ship as our Oceania shore excursions were pretty bad. We arranged our trip through Steven by email and Internet was spotty on the ship. He was quick to respond and was able to customize our trip for the day. We had 3 couples and Ynne was our guide. He was the best guide that we had had during our 12 day trip.
