Toulon Shore Excursion: Build Your Own Day
This 8 hour Toulon shore trip is for guests who want a private driver guide and vehicle without committing to one of our set itineraries. When you meet your driver guide at the pier, you discuss which places interest you most, and your guide helps you build a realistic day around them, factoring in driving time and traffic.
This is a good fit if you have already visited the main highlights on a previous stop in Toulon, if your group has mixed interests and can't agree on one set tour, if you would rather decide your plan the morning of based on weather or how you are feeling, or if you simply want a local guide's judgment on how to spend the day rather than a fixed checklist.
Places you can choose from
Sanary-sur-Mer, Bandol, and Le Castellet are the closest options, all within 15 miles (24km) of the port and under 20 minutes' drive. Sanary-sur-Mer is a fishing village known for its daily market and colorful wooden boats. Bandol is a wine town with vineyards on the coast since the 6th century BC and its own wine appellation, established in 1941. Le Castellet is a small stone hilltop village with narrow streets and artisan shops.
Cassis is about 27 miles (43km) from the port, 30 to 45 minutes each way. It is a fishing village at the foot of white limestone cliffs, on the edge of Calanques National Park, with an optional boat trip into the Calanques.
Mont Faron rises directly above Toulon. A cable car, opened in 1959 and unique on the Mediterranean coast, climbs to the 1,900 foot summit for views over Toulon Bay and the memorial to the 1944 Allied landings in Provence.
Aix-en-Provence is about 54 miles (87km) from the port, roughly an hour each way. It is the largest destination on this list, with the Cours Mirabeau, the old town, and, for guests interested in art, the Musee Granet and the studio of the painter Paul Cezanne, who was born in Aix in 1839.
Saint Tropez and Bormes-les-Mimosas are the farthest options. Saint Tropez is about 43 miles (70km) away, typically 1.5 to 2 hours each way. Bormes-les-Mimosas, a medieval village voted France's favorite village in 2026, is closer at about 24 miles (39km), roughly 30 to 35 minutes.
How guests typically build their day
Most guests choose one destination that requires real driving time, such as Aix-en-Provence or Saint Tropez, and spend the day there, or combine two to three of the closer coastal villages instead. Mont Faron and Cassis pair well together since both are reachable within an hour of the port, leaving most of the day free to explore on foot. Sanary-sur-Mer, Le Castellet, and Bandol also combine easily, since none of them requires more than 20 minutes' drive from Toulon or from each other.
With 8 hours total and driving time factored in, most guests realistically have 5 to 6 hours at their chosen destinations. Traffic and weather can affect this, and we cannot guarantee you will see everything on your list in the time available, so it helps to name your top one or two priorities when you meet your driver guide.
Please note that this "Flexible Toulon Itinerary" includes a driver guide who provides commentary while you are in the vehicle, with free time at the stops of your choice. Your driver guide can make recommendations based on your interests.
Mobility: Folding wheelchair OK, some sites may be inaccessible (advance notice required).
