This Copenhagen shore tour includes guided visits to Christiansborg Palace and Rosenborg Castle. You also see Amalienborg Palace, the current residence of the Danish Royal Family. Throughout the centuries, Danish monarchs have erected lasting monuments that today give Copenhagen its old-world charm.
On Castle Island you will find Christiansborg Palace, the spot where Bishop Absalon founded Copenhagen in 1167. The original medieval castle no longer exists, but several palaces have stood on this site over the centuries, at times serving as the home of the Royal Family. After a fire destroyed the first Christiansborg Palace in 1794, the Royal Family moved to Amalienborg Palace, and Christiansborg was later rebuilt to serve its present role.
Today's Christiansborg is a large complex of buildings housing the Danish Parliament and the Supreme Court, as well as the Royal Reception Rooms, which are visited as part of your tour. Note: if the Reception Rooms are in use for an official royal function, this portion of the visit may not be possible.
After visiting Christiansborg Palace, you continue to Rosenborg Castle. This small but beautiful Renaissance castle was built in the early 17th century by King Christian IV. Today the castle is a museum housing the Danish Crown Jewels, along with a rich collection of royal furniture, paintings, and other memorabilia.
