This private 4 hour shore excursion from the Olbia cruise port visits Porto Cervo, the crown jewel of Sardinia's Costa Smeralda and one of Italy's most exclusive resort towns. After meeting your licensed English speaking guide at the pier in Olbia, you drive to San Pantaleo, a hilltop village set among granite peaks in the Gallura countryside. San Pantaleo is known locally as an artists' village for its galleries and its weekly outdoor market, and it offers a photo stop with sweeping views over the surrounding hills and the sea below.
From San Pantaleo you continue into Porto Cervo. In 1962, Prince Karim Aga Khan IV and a group of investors formed the Costa Smeralda Consortium and purchased roughly 1,800 hectares of coastline between Porto Cervo, Liscia di Vacca, Cala di Volpe and Capriccioli, transforming a stretch of undeveloped granite coast into one of the most exclusive destinations in the Mediterranean. The Yacht Club Costa Smeralda, founded here in 1967, still anchors the marina's reputation among the international sailing and superyacht community. Porto Cervo has a year round population of only about 200 people, a number that grows considerably each summer as Italian, Russian and French visitors arrive to enjoy the marina, the boutiques and the clear waters of the sea.
Your guide leads a walking tour through the Piazzetta and the marina, past the yachts and the designer storefronts that have made Porto Cervo synonymous with Sardinian luxury. Before returning to the ship, there is time to stop for an espresso in the main square. The drive back to Olbia follows the panoramic coastal road along the sea front.
