This 7 hour Marseille shore trip fits one of our longer Provence tours into a shorter schedule, ideal if you do not have a full day available in port. You choose one of four itineraries: Marseille and Aix en Provence, Aix en Provence and Les Baux de Provence, Avignon and the Luberon, or the villages of the Luberon.
Marseille and Aix en Provence is the most popular combination on this tour. It pairs Marseille's own highlights, the Old Port and the hilltop basilica of Notre Dame de la Garde overlooking the city, with time in Aix en Provence, known for the tree-lined Cours Mirabeau and its historic old town, long associated with painter Paul Cezanne. This option keeps driving time short since Aix is close to Marseille, leaving more time at each stop.
Marseille is also the starting point for other private excursions reaching further into Provence and along the coast. Cassis, a small coastal town about 14 miles (23km) from Marseille, is known for its cliff-side views and the Calanques, narrow limestone inlets visited on an optional boat ride. Avignon, home to the fortified Palais des Papes, and the hilltop villages of the Luberon are covered by two of this tour's own itinerary choices, as is Les Baux de Provence, a village built into a rocky outcrop above the Alpilles.
This flexible itinerary includes a driver guide who provides commentary while you are in the vehicle, with free time at the stops of your choice. Your driver guide can make recommendations based on your interests. With a flexible itinerary we cannot guarantee you will see everything you would on the full length version of these tours, since traffic and weather affect driving time. This 7 hour tour can reach many of the same places as our 8 hour Provence tours, with less time at each stop. It is not possible to visit Pont du Gard, Saint Tropez, or the French Riviera on this itinerary.
