London Day Trips

This private London day trip visits the prehistoric monument known as Stonehenge and also enjoys a visit to the charming town of Salisbury, including a visit to its famous Cathedral, which hosts Britain's tallest spire.

After meeting your guide, you immediately depart for the World Heritage Site of Stonehenge. This prehistoric monument is one of the most important in the world, dating back an astonishing 5,000 years. The monument stands on a small mound in a vast plain in the countryside, not far from Salisbury. You can't help feeling excitement and perhaps a little fear about this mysterious site whose exact purpose is unknown. As you walk around the stones and learn about their mystery you will be surprised at their large size.

Next you drive to Salisbury, the historic city and market town that grew up around the cathedral. Salisbury dates back to 1220 when the hill top settlement of Old Sarum moved to this location.

Upon arrival, you enjoy a short walking tour of city which developed on a plan of becoming a market town. Different areas were dedicated to different trades, such as Fish Row, Butcher Row and Poultry Cross. Today you will still see many charming timber framed houses in the area, these special districts sit under the shadow of the famous Salisbury Cathedral.

After your walking tour you have free time for lunch (meal not included).

After lunch you visit the Salisbury Cathedral, built in just 38 years between 1220 and 1258 AD. The Cathedral is a magnificent example of early English Gothic architecture surrounded by 8 acres of lawn and Britain's largest medieval Close. Fascinating treasures include the best preserved copy of only four surviving Magna Carta which forms the basis of the American constitution. Salisbury Cathedral has Britain's tallest spire, at 404 feet, and Europe's oldest working clock, dating back to 1386 AD.

Depending on timing, there may be a short amount of additional free time before you return to London.

We did enjoy ourselves and I would highly recommend your tour company to anyone. The driver was really nice and very efficient getting us to all of the places that we wanted to see in the short time that we were in London. The guide was quite knowledgeable and friendly.

Our trip was wonderful! Our pick up at the airport, two tours, and transportation to the pier all went well. I would definitely use your company again for future travel needs.

We have been using your services for several years now and as usual every stop was perfect. Uniformly all stops this year were excellent. There were several highlights I need to mention. Our guide Hakan in Stockholm was simply the best I have ever had in 15 years of travel. He had all from the 9 year old to the 85 year old enthralled. Our guide Klavs in Copanhagan was the second best guide ever. He is a retired gentleman who went back to train as a guide. He offered so much more in the way of experience and perspective. I can not recommend him highly enough. He accessed the group on our initial meeting and said lets make a few minor changes which were super. We had lunch on the coast. Hit sites not planned and still hit all the planned sites. He took us off the beaten track to a Boy Scout camp where the scouts had a complete replica of a working Viking village. What a hit for us to really see how they lived and to put it all into perspective. Kids climbed and explored everything.
