This private day trip visits Windsor Castle, one of the King's official residences, then continues in the afternoon to a walking tour of Oxford, including Christ Church Cathedral.
After meeting your private guide, you depart for Windsor, in the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead, west of London in the Berkshire countryside along the River Thames. Windsor Castle has been a residence of English and British monarchs for almost 1,000 years and is described by the Royal Collection Trust as the oldest and largest occupied castle in the world. King Charles III uses Windsor as one of his official residences today, alongside its role hosting ceremonial and state occasions. St George's Chapel, within the Castle grounds, is the spiritual home of the Order of the Garter, the oldest order of chivalry in Britain, founded by Edward III in 1348. A typical visit includes the State Apartments, the Drawings Gallery, Queen Mary's Dolls' House and St George's Chapel, though as a working royal palace, Windsor Castle's opening arrangements can change with little or no notice.
After Windsor, you travel to Oxford, where you have free time for lunch (meal not included) before a walking tour of the city known as the City of Dreaming Spires. Oxford has been home to scholars and royals for over 800 years. The University of Oxford is made up of 36 constituent colleges, including All Souls College, Lincoln College, Magdalen College, Trinity College and the largest, Christ Church. Christ Church's dining hall served as a visual inspiration for Hogwarts' Great Hall in the Harry Potter films, so some buildings may look familiar. Christ Church Cathedral, unusually, also serves as the college chapel and the cathedral of the Anglican Diocese of Oxford; highlights include the Cathedral Choir and the shrine and tomb of St Frideswide, Oxford's patron saint.
At the end of the tour, you return to your hotel in London.
