TOUR DESCRIPTION

Isafjordur Shore Excursion

This Isafjordur shore trip explores Isafjardardjup, famous for its beautiful sheltered fjords and towering mountains. Stops to look out for seals and visit the Arctic Fox Center are highlights as well as the chance to enjoy the best waffles in Iceland in a restored turf house.

After meeting your guide at the Isafjordur pier you drive through the winding Isafjordur Bay fjord system, which lies at the heart of the Westfjords peninsula. There are many options for interesting stops based on your specific interests.

Typically the first stop is the Kambsnes viewpoint where you can learn more about the area and enjoy a great view over the bay. Then you continue to the Hvitanes cape seal colony to observe these curious creatures in their natural habitat.

A little further along is the restored turf house of Litlibaer, which was built in 1895. You have the option to enjoy Iceland's most delicious waffles and tea (meal not included). You can also spend some time looking at the small exhibition which will give you an insight into life in those days, or walk around the ruins in the area to enjoy the views.

On the way back to Isafjordur is an optional stop at the Arctic Fox Center (cost not included), which has an exhibition inside the beautiful Eyrardalsbae house. The exhibition is dedicated to Iceland's only native land mammal, the arctic fox. There are usually fox cubs in the protected area just outside the museum.

The entire drive offers breathtaking views of the fjords, mountains, the islands in the bay and the snowy mountain beaches of Snaefjallastrond.

Note: Even if you are visiting in the middle of summer, please wear warm clothing and comfortable walking shoes, preferably hiking shoes.

Mobility: NO wheelchairs

Zeta was amazing. It was very accommodating. We went there and then drove right back after an hour and half of climbing. The bus was nice too.

The tour was excellent, the guide was knowledgeable, pleasant and flexible in meeting our requests (eg short lunch). Certainly better than being in a big bus tour with all the other passengers. Thanks!

The transfer went well! The driver was great! He talked the whole time telling us funny stories and he seems to be following a lot of things going on in the US. His name was Thor. I would request him for anyone going to Iceland.
