Dunrobin Castle & Dalmore Distillery Shore Excursion from Invergordon

The highlight of this tour is a visit to Dunrobin Castle, regarded as one of the jewels of the Scottish Highlands. You also have free time in the town of Dornoch and visit the famous Dalmore Distillery.

Dunrobin Castle is one of Scotland's great houses and the largest in the Northern Highlands, with 189 rooms. It is also one of Britain's oldest continuously inhabited houses, with parts dating to the early 1300s, home to the Earls and later the Dukes of Sutherland. During the First World War the castle served as a naval hospital, and from 1965 to 1972 it operated as a boys' boarding school. Its French chateau exterior, with distinctive conical towers, was largely created by Sir Charles Barry, architect of the Houses of Parliament in London, and the castle is perched on a high terrace above walled gardens rising over the North Sea. Your visit includes a tour of the castle and its gardens, laid out in 1850 and modeled on the Palace of Versailles.

After visiting the castle you drive to the nearby town of Dornoch. While you are here, we suggest a visit to Dornoch Cathedral, the most northerly cathedral on the UK mainland, where Madonna chose to christen her son Rocco in 2000. You also have time to have lunch in a typical Scottish pub.

Later in the afternoon, you stop at the Dalmore Distillery, which has been producing single malt whisky since 1839. Dalmore whisky continues to receive strong reviews from experts and connoisseurs, and you get insight into the skill and craft behind each bottle. At the end of the tour, you return to Invergordon.
