This three hour Copenhagen shore excursion is for those who want the most flexibility with their itinerary. When you meet your driver guide you discuss your interests and the places you wish to visit. Your driver guide will help you maximize your time based on your interests and traffic conditions. Some people like this option so they can spend a lot of time in one location. Others like to try to see as much as possible in the time available.
This tour has a 35 mile (60km) round trip driving radius from the pier, which in practice keeps it to central Copenhagen rather than the castles and museums farther out in the countryside. Within that radius, your guide can build the day around Nyhavn, the colorful 17th century harbor lined with townhouses, restaurants, and bars, about 2 miles (3km) from the port; Tivoli Gardens, the historic amusement park and gardens near the city center, about 2 miles (4km) from the port; the Stroget pedestrian shopping street, with both international and Danish brands, about 2 miles (3km) from the port; and Amalienborg Palace, home of the Danish royal family, about 2 miles (3km) from the port.
Popular combinations include Nyhavn paired with a walk along the harbor toward the Little Mermaid statue, both close to the water; or Stroget shopping paired with Nyhavn, combining browsing with harbor views. Tivoli Gardens on its own is a good choice for guests who would rather spend the whole 3 hours relaxed in one place than move between several stops.
This option tends to suit cruise passengers with a short port day, guests who want a quick, curated taste of central Copenhagen rather than a packed itinerary, and repeat visitors who have already done a set tour of the royal castles and want cafe and harbor time instead.
With 3 hours total and central Copenhagen only about 2 miles from the port, driving time is minimal, leaving close to 2.5 hours actually in the city. That's realistic for 2 adjacent stops, such as Nyhavn and the Little Mermaid, or Stroget and Nyhavn, but the castles and museums outside the city, such as Kronborg Castle or the Viking Ship Museum in Roskilde, are 40 to 58 miles of round trip driving alone, more than this tour's 35 mile radius allows and far more than 3 hours permits. Guests who want those destinations should book our 5 hour Flexible Copenhagen tour instead.
Please note that this "Flexible Itinerary" includes a driver guide who provides commentary while you are in the vehicle and then you have free time in the stops of your choice. Your driver guide can make recommendations based on your interest. It is important to understand that with a flexible itinerary, we cannot guarantee you can see everything you would like in the amount of time you have chosen. Traffic conditions and weather ultimately affect the driving time to the places you wish to visit. If you decide you want to visit the interior of any sites, then you are expected to pay the applicable entrance fees in local currency.
Travel Tip for our Clients: If you are visiting Copenhagen from a cruise ship, this is an excellent option if you are an active traveler who might want to end their tour in the heart of Copenhagen and then walk, or take a taxi, back to the pier late in the afternoon. Or if you prefer, your driver guide will take you back to the pier at the end of your private excursion.
