Bilbao Shore Excursion - This tour visits a very typical Basque fishing village along with another village which has a special place in the hearts of the Basque people. Then you end the tour with a visit to Txakoli winery.
After meeting your guide at the pier you have 20 minute drive until you reach Gernika (or Guernica). This small town that was razed to the ground by German aircrafts during WWII to support the troops of Franco in the Spanish Civil War. These events prompted Pablo Picasso to paint his most famous work and then name it after the town. Gernika has become the traditional heart of Basque nationalism. You will see the famous Gernika Tree where assemblies were held for hundreds of year. The tree has become the symbol of the Basque Country.
Next you continue on to Bermeo, which is one of the most beautiful and important fishing towns of the region. This another typical Basque fishing town. The small boats in the harbor along with the colorful houses combined with a Casino dating back to 1894, the 17th century town hall and charming churches make this place a treasure. Nearby is a nice beach which is filled with sunbathers and swimmers.
After visiting these two charming towns you will stop at a Txakoli winery, called a txakolinera. This dry white wine is very popular in the region and will be served with some local products such as bread, tomatoes and olive oil.
