TOUR DESCRIPTION

Akureyri Shore Excursion

This Akureyri shore trip visits the stunning Godafoss waterfall, known as the Beauty. Then you are given different options to explore sites in and around the old town of Akureyri.

After meeting your guide in Akureyri you start the journey towards Lake Myvatn. About half way there is a stop at the Godafoss waterfall which is one of the most stunning in all of Iceland. The name of the falls means, waterfall of the Gods, and your guide will explain the legend which brought this name. The falls are about 40 feet high and 100 feet wide. This waterfall is often referred to as the Beauty.

Next you drive back towards Akureyri via the Vikurskard mountain pass. You will enjoy views over Eyjafjordur and the town. Akureyri is Iceland’s second largest town outside of the capital area and is considered the heart of Northern Iceland.

Your guide will give you some options as to how you can spend your time. Maybe you prefer to explore the charming old town or visit the world's most northern Botanical gardens? Another option is to explore the shore of Eyjafjordur fjord with Laufus turf roof house to learn the century of the people who have lived here since the 9th century.

Other people might choose to visit the year round festive Christmas House where you have the chance to purchase local handicrafts and learn about Christmas traditions in Iceland.

At the end of your tour your guide brings you back to your cruise ship in Akureyri.

Note: Even if you are visiting in the middle of summer, please wear warm clothing and comfortable walking shoes, preferably hiking shoes.

Mobility: NO wheelchairs

We did enjoy ourselves and I would highly recommend your tour company to anyone. The driver was really nice and very efficient getting us to all of the places that we wanted to see in the short time that we were in London. The guide was quite knowledgeable and friendly.

Our trip was wonderful! Our pick up at the airport, two tours, and transportation to the pier all went well. I would definitely use your company again for future travel needs.

A fantastic day exploring London!

All of our guides were incredibly knowledgeable and kept us entertained with fascinating stories. The Tower of London was a highlightseeing the Crown Jewels up close was unforgettable! We also got great views of Big Ben and Parliament before stopping for a traditional pub lunch, which was delicious. Iceland was also breathtaking - guides were great and were more like friends at the end of the tours. Highly recommended all!

We have been using your services for several years now and as usual every stop was perfect. Uniformly all stops this year were excellent. There were several highlights I need to mention. Our guide Hakan in Stockholm was simply the best I have ever had in 15 years of travel. He had all from the 9 year old to the 85 year old enthralled. Our guide Klavs in Copanhagan was the second best guide ever. He is a retired gentleman who went back to train as a guide. He offered so much more in the way of experience and perspective. I can not recommend him highly enough. He accessed the group on our initial meeting and said lets make a few minor changes which were super. We had lunch on the coast. Hit sites not planned and still hit all the planned sites. He took us off the beaten track to a Boy Scout camp where the scouts had a complete replica of a working Viking village. What a hit for us to really see how they lived and to put it all into perspective. Kids climbed and explored everything.
