This tour visits one of Poland's greatest national treasures, Wilanow Palace and Park. Often referred to as "the pearl of Polish architecture" or "the Polish Versailles," this is one of Warsaw's top tourist draws.
After meeting your guide, you depart for Wilanow, located on the southern edge of modern day Warsaw. The palace was built between 1677 and 1696 for King John III Sobieski and his wife Maria Kazimiera, following his coronation in 1674. The king initially lived in the traditional royal residence in the Old Town, but he and his wife wanted a country retreat, so they purchased the village of Wilanow and built this Baroque palace, designed by architect Augustyn Locci.
Highlights of your visit include the royal apartments, where you see period furniture, fabrics, glass, ceramics, and gold work. Also notable is the Polish Portrait Gallery, which traces the development of Polish portrait painting through roughly 400 portraits of notable Poles from the 16th to 19th centuries. For other visitors, the highlights are the Baroque exterior with its gardens, sculptures, and fountains.
After visiting this national treasure, you are brought back to your hotel in Warsaw.
