After meeting your private guide at the pier you immediately depart for Stirling and its famous castle. Stirling Castle is built on a rocky outcrop offering commanding views for many miles around. It was built as an almost impregnable fortification, and visitors can explore many aspects of its long military history, particularly during the Wars of Independence in the 1300s. But it was also an important and luxurious royal palace: visitors today can gain an insight into the life of Scotland's royal court, especially that of James V, who rebuilt much of the castle's palace buildings in the French Renaissance style during his reign.
After your tour of Stirling Castle, you visit the town of Stirling, located at the mouth of the River Forth. The medieval old town is nestled below the fortress, with narrow streets that predate the castle's grandest buildings by centuries.
Following this stop you return to the pier.
