Galician Albarino Wine TourThis Vigo shore trip enjoys a scenic drive through the Rias Baixas wine region of Galicia, with the chance to enjoy tapas in a small fishing village and then a tour and tasting at one of the region's premium wine estates. After meeting your driver guide at the pier, they show you a few highlights of the port city of Vigo before you drive into the Galicia countryside. Your first stop is Combarro, a small picturesque fishing village known for its horreos, traditional Galician granaries raised on stone pillars. Around thirty of Combarro's horreos sit directly along the shoreline, their granite legs nearly touched by the tide at high water, making it one of the most photographed views in Galicia. While you are here, you have free time to enjoy a local tapas restaurant (meal not included) and explore or shop. Next you drive to Cambados, considered the capital of Albarino wine and home to the Denomination of Origin Rias Baixas, where you visit one of the region's premium wine estates. You enjoy a guided tour of the vineyard and cellar, then have time to taste three of the estate's Albarino wines, the crisp, aromatic white wine variety that put this coastline on the wine map. There is a chance to purchase a bottle to take home if you wish. After your wine tasting, you return to Vigo. Please note - Mobility: Due to uneven surfaces, steps, and walking distances, this itinerary is not suitable for guests using wheelchairs. Departure and return point for this tour, Port of Vigo Official Website Frequently Asked QuestionsWhat makes Combarro's horreos unique?
Horreos are traditional raised stone and wood granaries found throughout Galicia, built on pillars to keep grain dry and safe from rodents. Combarro is unusual because roughly thirty of its horreos sit directly along the waterfront, with their stone legs nearly touched by the sea at high tide, a setting found nowhere else in the region in such concentration.
Why is Cambados considered the capital of Albarino wine?
Cambados sits in the Val do Salnes subzone of the Rias Baixas Denomination of Origin, widely regarded as the historic birthplace of Albarino wine. The town hosts the annual Festa do Albarino each August, and Albarino accounts for about 95 percent of all wine produced under the Rias Baixas designation.
How many wines do we taste, and can we buy a bottle?
Your tasting includes three of the estate's Albarino wines after a guided tour of the vineyard and cellar. If you enjoy a particular bottle, you are welcome to purchase it to take home; this is not included in the tour price.
