Vigo Shore Excursion
This Vigo shore trip explores two charming towns, Baiona which is located in Spain at the edge of Vigo Bay, and Valenca do Minho located on the river which serves as the border between Portugal and Spain. You also enjoy stunning views from Mount Santa Tecla and see a few highlights in Vigo.
After meeting your driver guide at the pier in Vigo you immediately depart for Baiona. The town of Baiona dates back to 140 BC and in 1493 one of Columbus' ships, the Pinta, arrived here making this town the first in Europe to have news of the New World. More recently the town is a small fishing village which is very popular with tourists in the summer months. You will enjoy a walk through the Baiona Old Quarter with its quaint winding cobblestone streets. You will see the cloistered Convent of the Dominicas, the Misericordia Chapel, and Casa Lorenzo Correa that serves as Baiona's Town Hall and the Monterreal Fortress. This walled fortress was constructed in the 14th century and today it contains a luxury hotel that resembles a Galician manor house.
Next you'll drive along the beautiful coast of Galicia to A Guardia, near the border with Portugal, to visit Mount Santa Tecla. During the drive to the summit, you will stop at an Iron Age settlement. From the summit you enjoy views of the sea and into both Spain and Portugal.
Later you visit Valenca do Minho, Portugal, an attractive town that welcomes you to visit its streets filled with pottery, linen and crockery. You will cross over the Minho River that forms the border between the 2 countries and enjoy the spectacular views. You'll enjoy some time to wander around and browse the town and its shops.
After your free time you return to Vigo.
