This private Split shore excursion combines the history of Omis, a Cetina River canyon cruise, and a riverside Croatian lunch in a single 5.5-hour tour. Your licensed English-speaking guide meets you at the Split cruise port and accompanies you throughout the day.
Your first stop is the town of Omis, located at the mouth of the Cetina River where it meets the Adriatic Sea. Omis has a well-documented history as a stronghold of Adriatic pirates during the Middle Ages, and the remains of its medieval fortifications are still visible throughout the town. You see the fortress of Mirabella, the town gate, sections of the original stone walls, the tower on Fosal, and the ruins of the Fortica fortress perched on a cliff roughly 900 feet above the town. After the guided walking tour, you have free time to explore Omis on your own.
From Omis, you board small boats for a Cetina River cruise through one of Croatia's most dramatic natural landscapes. The Cetina cuts through a deep limestone canyon, and the cruise follows the river upstream past sheer rock walls, clear green water, and dense riverside vegetation. For centuries, the river powered a series of water mills along its banks. The mills were first recorded in the 17th century and were later renovated by the Radman family, whose name they carry to this day.
Following the cruise, lunch is served at the Radmanove Mlinice restaurant, set directly alongside the river in an area of undisturbed natural surroundings. The traditional Croatian meal includes local products such as fish, smoked ham, cheese, olives, wine, grappa, and natural water.
