This half day tour is a sensory tour of Hvar beyond the main town: the scent of lavender, a local delicacy, picturesque Dalmatian villages, and the sound of waves on the beach.
After meeting your guide at the port, you head directly to Brusje, a village whose old stone houses line the main street. Hvar island is known throughout Croatia for its lavender, and the air here often carries the flower's scent during growing season. Lavender growing and processing supports much of the local economy, and after a short walking tour you learn about how it is grown and used before relaxing with a local cake, coffee, or tea (not included).
Next you drive to Vrboska, the smallest settlement on Hvar, known for a mix of architectural styles including Romanesque and Gothic. Here you visit the Fisherman's Museum and the 16th century Church of St. Mary of Mercy, built as a defensive structure against Ottoman raids and unusual for its fortress-like appearance.
Your final stop is Milna, a protected cove about 6 kilometers from Hvar Town with two sandy beaches separated by a pine forest, a favorite for a quiet swim before you return to the ship.
Note: this tour runs during lavender season, June through August.
