TOUR DESCRIPTION

Nafplion Shore Excursion - This 2.5 hour your walking tour visits the sites of Nafplion, one of Greece's most romantic and beautiful towns. You learn about Greece traditions and then end your tour with a sampling of small appetizers and the favorite spirit of the Greeks, Ouzo.

After meeting your private guide at the pier, your walking tour begins as you marvel at the beautiful neoclassical buildings lining the port. The narrow streets of the old town are paved with marble and filled with elegant Venetian houses and gracious mansions. The town is dominated by the towering Palamidi Fortress above.

Your first stop is the Kapodistriou Square and Park which is dedicated to the memory of the first Governor of Greece. In the park is a statue of Kolokotronis, known as the Grand Old Man of the Morea, being the leader of the Greeks during the War of Independence. It was him who besieged the Turkish occupied Palamidi Citadel for 15 months before it was finally surrendered back. On the square you also see the current Town Hall building which was originally the very first High School in Greece.

Continuing through the back streets, not normally meant for tourists, you come upon the old Catholic Church and the 1702 Church of Agios Spyidon. The "worry beads" you see everywhere in Greece have a museum of their own in Nafplion and you will visit the Museum of Komboloi to learn of their origin.

Next you proceed through the popular Syntagma Square (Constitution Square) to visit the spectacular display of folk costumes and traditional textile-producing techniques at the Popular Art Museum, winner of the 1981 European Museum of the year.

After learning the ways of Greeks in the past you move on to Karonis Wine Shop where you will enjoy current Greek life. Mr. Karonis is regarded as a specialist on Greek wines and has written a number of books on the various wines of Greece. Today, however, in the true Greek style, you will sample a variety of mezes (small appetizers) and the favorite spirit of the Greeks, Ouzo.

After your walking tour the guide will walk with you back to the pier.

Everything went perfectly throughout the entire trip. I could not have asked for anything better with regard to price, quality, guides and buses. Ill make sure and add a good recommend to your facebook blog when I return. Please feel free to use me for references. As someone who has traveled for years, been a travel agent for over 18, and have used many tour companies, I can be quite critical and jaded. I have absolutely nothing negative to say about my experience with PST or with the companies you booked. Thanks again for everything.

What a great time all of us had. Mostly because of our tours with the people you booked us with. I cant say enough about our tours, guides, drivers and vehicles...All of us were impressed with each of them and have already recommended your company to people we know who have upcoming trips to Europe. Plans are being drawn up for our next trip in 2 years..I must admit I was afraid something would go wrong, and being the one in charge of the bookings all of the blame would fall on me if one of the tours didnt show up...Well what a hoot when we got off the boat in all 3 places and there was my name on the bus....Once again thank you for all of your help
