TOUR DESCRIPTION

Florence, Pisa & Leaning Tower Shore Excursion from Livorno

This tour is best suited for those who wish to maximize their time by having a very organized itinerary. In Florence you have a licensed tour guide who provides a walking tour of the city and you choose to visit either the Accademia or the Uffizi Gallery. In the late afternoon you stop to see the Leaning Tower of Pisa.

After meeting your driver guide at the pier in Livorno, your exploration begins with a drive through the Tuscan countryside to Florence, roughly 80 to 100 kilometers (50 to 60 miles) away. As an introduction to Florence, you stop at Piazzale Michelangelo, a scenic terrace designed in 1869 by the architect Giuseppe Poggi during Florence's brief period as the capital of newly unified Italy. The square takes its name from the bronze copy of Michelangelo's David standing at its center, cast from the original marble statue, along with bronze copies of his four Times of Day allegorical figures from the Medici Chapel. From this terrace you get one of the best panoramic views in the city, looking out over the Arno River to the Duomo's dome and the rooftops of the historic center below.

Next you drive into Florence's historic center and meet your licensed guide for a walking tour of the city's landmark sites. You'll see the Duomo, Florence's cathedral topped by Brunelleschi's dome, an engineering achievement completed in 1436 without wooden supporting scaffolding, still the largest brick dome ever built. Nearby stands the Baptistery, its eastern doors known as the Gates of Paradise, ten gilded bronze panels by Lorenzo Ghiberti depicting scenes from the Old Testament that took him 27 years to complete. Your guide also points out Giotto's bell tower, the Palazzo Vecchio, the Loggia, and the Ponte Vecchio spanning the Arno.

Your guide also joins you in the museum of your choice, the Accademia or the Uffizi Gallery. The Accademia Gallery features Michelangelo's David and the prisoner statues, an excellent option for those who prefer a short museum visit. The Uffizi Gallery is the largest collection of Italian Renaissance paintings and is recommended for more serious art lovers. You choose the museum of your choice at the time of reservation so we can have VIP tickets ready so you avoid major lines.

After exploring Florence with your licensed guide you have free time for lunch (meal not included) and a short amount of time for shopping.

Later this afternoon your driver guide brings you to Pisa to visit the Piazza dei Miracoli or Field of Miracles, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This pedestrian area is one of the finest architectural ensembles in the world, including the Leaning Tower of Pisa and the Duomo (cathedral), a Romanesque masterpiece dating back to the 11th century. If you are looking for a last minute souvenir or an afternoon Italian ice cream, you can also find it here.

At the end of the day, you are brought back to the pier in Livorno.

Mobility: Folding wheelchairs OK, some sites may be inaccessible (advance notice required)

Are museum entrance fees included?

Do Livorno tours include a Back-to-Ship Guarantee?
Yes, and it's built into every Livorno tour we run -- the Back-to-Ship Guarantee. If a delay caused by our tour operator keeps you from returning to the ship on time, we'll arrange and cover your transportation to catch up with the ship at its next port of call. To qualify, your tour needs to be scheduled to return at least 1.5 hours before the ship's departure, and you'll need to be back at the vehicle for every agreed meeting time during the day.
How much deposit is required to book a Livorno tour?
Booking a Livorno tour requires a $50 deposit up front. The remaining balance is due 30 days before your tour date. If your plans change, that deposit isn't refundable, but it stays on your account as credit toward any tour for up to 3 years. Larger groups, custom itineraries, or tours involving flights or overnight stays may carry a bigger deposit and their own terms, which we'll spell out at booking.
What is the cancellation policy for Livorno tours?
As long as you cancel your Livorno tour 15 days or more in advance, you get a refund minus $50. Inside 14 days of the tour date, cancellations become non-refundable. One exception: if your ship simply doesn't call at Livorno because of weather, mechanical issues, or political unrest, you'll get a full refund less the $50 fee. All cancellation requests need to be submitted in writing by email.
Where do we meet our driver or guide in Livorno?
Cruise Ship: When you get off the ship in Livorno, look for the terminal's main public exit. If a terminal building is present, go through arrivals to the outdoor pickup area -- cruise staff will help direct you. If not, your driver will be waiting right on the dock. Can't find your contact? Stay near where you exited and call the local dispatch number on your confirmation. Hotel: Look for your driver or guide right outside the main entrance or in the lobby -- they'll be holding a sign with your group name. Airport: Once you've collected your luggage and cleared customs, head into the arrivals hall -- your driver or guide will be there holding a sign with your group name.
Are entrance fees included in Livorno tours, and are they refundable?
You'll find entrance fees bundled in for Livorno tours where the tour page states it. Keep in mind some venues require timed, skip-the-line tickets that become non-refundable the moment they're purchased. We'll flag any non-refundable entrance fees for you at booking.
Can we customize the itinerary on our Livorno shore excursion?
That's the advantage of going private in Livorno -- the day can adjust to you. Mention any must-see sight to your driver or guide at pickup, and they'll do their best to work it in. Traffic and time constraints can occasionally limit how much we can change, but your guide will always try to keep things personal.

We had a wonderful vacation. Every one of the tour guides were great. My family was really impressed with their knowledge, service, and friendliness. I was pleasantly surprised with how much better an experience we had compared to the Princess Cruise Ship Tours. For example, our tour guide for the Amalfi Coast and Pompeii knew that Pompeii was closed until 1130 AM and changed our itinerary to travel along the coast in the morning and go to Pompeii at the end of the day. The other tours just took people to the gate and waited for two hours. Thanks again. My wife and kids felt that each guide was a   friend   by the end of the tour. The guides in Florence and Ephesus were probably the highlight for us. The Mercedes vans that were used in most cities were always nice and all of our drivers were really great. Ive already recommended you to a friend.

I cant thank you enough for the excellent service. The private tours you arranged far exceeded any expectations. When we walked off the ship and saw our drivers waiting we all felt like Royalty. They made wonderful recommendations regarding our itineraries. The vans were absolutely immaculate. They always opened our doors and assisted us in and out of the vehicle. They were so knowledgeable about their destinations.  I cant wait to contact some of my clients who are planning European cruises for next season and together with you planning their private tours

Jim and I couldnt have been more pleased to be greeted at the ship by Maurice and treated like royalty on our tour of Florence. He was just amazing with all the traffic and was able to get us into both the Uffizi and the Academia Gallery without any wait. He would get us to a tour site and would let us know where he would be at all times to pick us up. He showed us to a quaint local restaurant for lunch. Maurice was a pleasure as our guide and we would highly recommend a private tour with your company to others. Thank you again for making our European trip a pleasure.
