Limassol Shore Excursion

This Limassol shore trip explores the Troodos Mountains of Cyprus, giving you a glimpse of the traditional Cypriot life. You will enjoy scenic views, charming villages and free time in Troodos Square near the peak of Mt. Olympus.

After meeting your guide in Limassol you start the excursion with a stop in the beautiful village of Omodos which is a wine producing town where an old wine-press known as Linos is open to visitors. In August the town hosts a traditonal wine festival which is popular with locals and tourists.

Then you travel through the scenic roads through Troodos forest until you reach the Kykkos Monastery which sits high in the Troodos Mountains. This is the most famous monastery on the island and has great historic significance. It dates back to the year 1100. and is ornately decorated with wonderful bright colored mosaics. Its famous for its wealth; golden icons and well preserved wall paintings. Your guide will fill your stay with plenty of stories, unravelling the rich history of Cyprus, piece by piece. The Kykkos Monastery is also home to one of the three surviving icons, that are said to be created by Saint Luke. The icon is covered in silver gilt and is housed in a shrine of tortoise shell and mother of pearl.

Next you travel to the resort village of Platres where you will have free time for lunch. The village dates back to the late 12th century and today it only has a year round population of about 300 people but it is one of the most popular resorts in the mountains.

Your final stop today is Troodos Square where you will have free time to enjoy the stunning views and stroll through the shops which sell local crafts and foods. We suggest that you stop in a traditional coffee shop for a cup of Cypriot coffee and a taste of the local home-made compotes.

After enjoy a wonderful excursion in these beautiful mountains you will return to Limassol later today.
