This area is located northeast of Bordeaux and has been producing brandy since the 16th century, when Dutch traders began distilling local wine to preserve it for the sea voyage home. Once you are in Cognac you will enjoy both morning and afternoon visits to tour the Remy Martin and Hennessy wineries.

Some people ask what is the difference between brandy and Cognac. In fact Cognac is a specific type of brandy which can only be produced in this very small region. Requirements also say that it must be double distilled in both a copper pot and then aged in French oak barrels for a minimum of two years.
