Koper Shore Excursion

This Koper shore trip visits Europe's smallest capital city. Ljubljana's old town is one of Europe's secret jewels. While you are here, you enjoy a walking tour, a trip to the castle tower and boat ride through the town center.

After meeting your guide in Koper, you immediately depart for Ljubljana. The city has a small town feel and is well worth the visit. There is a barrage of Baroque and Art nouveau architecture, lovely parks, a winding tree lined river through the center of town and a castle on the hill overlooking it all. Ljubljana only has 300,000 residents so it is hard to compare it to other cities, but it's old town is easily reminiscent of Vienna, Paris or Salzburg.

During your walking tour you see the 15th century Town Hall, Preseren Square with the imposing Franciscan Church and the famous Triple Bridge. You will stroll along the old arcaded market between the Cobblers Bridge and the Dragon Bridge with its various dragon statues.

Then you take a funicular up to the castle watch tower where you enjoy wonderful views of Ljubljana. It is much easier to understand the town's Triple Bridge from this vantage point.

Next you enjoy a cruise in a small wooden boat along the Ljubljanica River. On the river the beauty of the surrounding architecture comes alive. You also sense the pulse of the city as you pass the university.

Finally you have free time for lunch (meal not included). There are many caf̩es along the river banks. There is also a short amount of time to visit some of the boutiques or antique stores or visit the open air market. Every week the farmers bring their goods to sell directly from the fertile terrain to the square. It is a lively area where organic vegetables are still the main product. The ambiance of the market, is still as it was four hundred years ago.

At the end of the tour, you return to Koper.
