Isle of Portland Shore Excursion

This full day private tour from the Isle of Portland explores the World Heritage Site known as the Jurassic Coast. The coastline is about 96 miles long and your visit today focuses on the Durdle Door, the Lulworth Cove, the harbor town of Weymouth and Chesil Beach.

After meeting your local guide at the port you start your journey along the coastline which is not only well known for its geological significance but also for its diverse flora, fauna, birds and marine life. The coastline is named after the Jurassic period and you will have the chance to see stunning geological formations, cliffs, and beaches that showcase 185 million years of Earth's history.

Your first stop today is at the Durdle Door. This natural 180 million year old limestone arch is located near Lulworth and is one of the most photographed landmarks along the coast.

Next you will visit a horseshoe-shaped bay called Lulworth Cove. The cove was formed by the sea’s erosion and the waters are crystal clear, making it a popular swimming spot in warm weather. While you are here there is time to visit the small charming fishing village.

Later this morning is a stop at the majestic ruins of Corfe Castle which is located atop a steep hill overlooking the picturesque village in the village of Corfe. The castle dates back to the 11th century and was originally built by William the Conqueror. Today it is a popular attraction, drawing visitors from around the world to explore its medieval remains, enjoy the scenic views of the picturesque countryside, and learn about its rich history.

Later this afternoon is a stop in the old harbor town of Weymouth. You will have time to enjoy a lunch (meal not included). Being we are on the seaside, it is recommended that you try the fish & chips with a scenic view.

Before returning to the pier on the Isle of Portland you will enjoy breathtaking views of the 18-mile long Chesil Beach. This is a perfect spot for reflection and appreciation of nature's beauty. You will take home these memories and more on your 180 million year journey of the Jurassic Coast.
