TOUR DESCRIPTION

Warnemunde Shore Excursion - Enjoy a private Cold War history tour of Berlin. Your guide will be a local expert, most-likely an East-Berlin historian, with many years of experience in guiding and a passion for showing you their hometown.

Your private driver will meet you at the pier and then your guide joins you in Berlin. One of your first stops will be the Berlin Wall Memorial Site which is the only place in Berlin where the Wall can be seen in its original border installations. You will take a closer look at the notorious death strip wall system that cost the lives of many escapees between 1961 and 1989. Get in touch with this massive manifestation of the Iron Curtain and hear the stories of the dramatic building and the turbulent fall of the Wall which divided the Berliners for more than 28 years.

Next you visit the famous Friedrichstrasse train station with the so-called Palace of Tears, one of the most important entrance gates into East Berlin during Cold War. You guide will tell you all about the legendary ghost stations, the risky "smuggling" of goods, books and people and how the Berliners managed their everyday life in a divided city.

You will go deeper into the heart of Berlins historic city center. You'll drive along the Friedrichstrasse until you reach one of the most iconic sites of the Cold War, Checkpoint Charlie.

You will visit Alexanderplatz and the iconic Berlin TV Tower, plus see the nearby Marx Engels Forum, where the statues of the communist philosophers Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels still seem to watch over the Berliners.

Next, we continue on to the East Side Gallery, a unique and colorful landmark. Nearby Karl-Marx-Allee is also worth a stop to see the impressive 1950's buildings which were built in the eclectic Soviet "sugar bakery" style.

Of course there will be time to stop for a typical German lunch (meal not included) and to grab a souvenir if you wish.

After seeing these exciting places you will be taken back to the pier in Rostock / Warnemunde.

Mobility: Folding wheelchair OK, some sites may be inaccessible (advance notice required)

The tours went well, the tour guides were excellent, very knowledgeable (most of them history professors moonlighting as tour guides during school breaks), and professional. Well done! The drivers were very cooperative and worked well with the tour guides. Good Team! Next year, I will be planning Dubai and Jordan. If you do these places, I will be in touch with you again. On behalf of my group, thank you. Monaco - The tour was fantastic. We really enjoyed our driverguide. We did a lot of tours during our trip and I must say this tour was one of the best. Ill be happy to recommend to my friends.

It was just FABULOUS! And we could not be more thrilled to have had the chance to meet these wonderful people who took us through their cities and showed us with such pride how rich their lives and their history has been. We ate it up and tried to memorize every bit of information. They were truly  professional tour guides  and gave us everything we could possibly handle. We loved it. Everything went perfectly and our flights over and back went without a hitch. (which is always a bit by luck) We had a huge suite at the front of the ship with all kinds of special perks for the cruise and we spent most of the time in the room because of the view. The weather was perfect except for a little light rain in Germany. But we had sunshine in all the other ports and we understood it was a big deal in Russia. My parents were troopers and they LOVE their private shore trips! They brag about this type of touring to everyone they know and they are, by far, your biggest fans! We can not wait to call you again to book as many tours as possible with  Travel with Friends . Because that is truly what it is Travel With Friends! I would love to write again for your web page. Just give me some time to recover. ) Sincerely - A very happy traveler!

I just wanted you to hear that I have outstanding feedback from the large family of 7 that you arranged a private Berlin in early June. Apparently the guide, Greta, was beyond impressive and not only kept the history buffs fascinated, but entertained the remainder of the family and the one year old too! Apparently she is the best guide they have ever booked anywhere). I hope this is good news to end the week and Happy 4th!

I have been meaning to get in touch and letting you know that all private tours were right on time even though after reconfirming from the hotel in Copenhagen my German phone never worked, so I was a bit concerned how it would work out but they were all there, were professional and helpful and with the three boys it was the best decision I made about the whole trip to have the private tours. I knew this cruise would not be the perfect itinerary for teen age boys but I think the guides we had made it work, adjusted the programs tour over the city rather than the city tour as it would have given the boys a thrill and me the kind of overview of the city one could not get from a car. I dont mean it complaining, it is more hindsight on my part. I would recommend Private tours to anyone with a small group, as the flexibility and advantage of passing all the long long line ups for all the larger groups and sneaking in ahead of them was worth alone the extra cost. On top of it the flexibility was just priceless for the boys. I have less good things to say about the cruise line, found the ship not well organized and not at all helpful for anyone not wanting their tours and giving the rest of us wrong information about landing procedures at least 12 the time. Well, I have learned a lot and even though I will never be a total cruise fan, the baltic itinerary is really very informative if one prepares oneself as there was little or no advanced information on the destination ports given to us from the ship itself. So, thanks for your helpful service, I would recommend booking private tours to anyone!! You are welcome to quote my recommendation if needed.
