TOUR DESCRIPTION

Warnemunde Shore Excursion - This Berlin tour is for those who are interested in learning about Berlin's WWII history including the locations where many historical events took place. Your guide is a local expert regarding the Third Reich, the Holocaust and WWII.

Your private driver will bring you into Berlin and your city guide joins you at the first stop, the Reichstag building, which is one of the key places to understand the Nazi's rise to power. The impressive 19th century building stands at the beginning and the end of the Third Reich. Here a fire in 1933 allegedly started by a communist became a stepping stone for Hitler's seizure of absolute power in Germany. Twelve years later the Red Army's capture of Reichstag marked the apocalyptic end of the Battle of Berlin, which ended World War II in continental Europe.

Next you visit the nearby Soviet War Memorial, a grave monument built in 1945 for the many soldiers who lost their lives capturing Berlin and the Reichstag. From here you can still see the former East-West-Axis, a broad boulevard which was an essential part of Hitler's and Albert Speer's megalomaniac plan to turn Berlin into a World Capital which would have been named Germania.

From Brandenburg Gate you walk to the somber Memorial to the Murdered Jews of Europe. Only a stone's throw away you'll discover the site, where Hitler's bunker was located.

Later you take a trip through the former Nazi government quarter where your guide will deepen your insights into the darkest period of German history. See the propaganda ministry of Goebbels, G̦ring's ministry of aviation and visit the leftovers of one of the most feared addresses of the Third Reich: the headquarter of the Gestapo and SS.

Next you pass by one of the most iconic places of the Cold War, Checkpoint Charlie, and head to lovely Gendarmenmarkt with its beautiful twin churches. In the nearby massive building of the former Imperial Bank the Germans kept stolen gold from their raided enemies of World War II. It is in this square where on the 10th of May 1933 radicalized students of the Berlin University burnt 20,000 books, which they had branded as of Non-German spirit.

Other sites of interest include the Topography of Terror. If time permits you may also visit the neighborhood of Prenzlauer Berg, where the Russians fought their way into the city. If you are interested in a closer look at the most-impressive War Memorial at Treptower Park, please let your guide know at the very beginning of the tour (as we maybe have to skip some other places, though it is worthwhile).

At the end of the day you will be taken back to the pier in Rostock / Warnemunde.

Mobility: Folding wheelchair OK, some sites may be inaccessible (advance notice required)

The tours went well, the tour guides were excellent, very knowledgeable (most of them history professors moonlighting as tour guides during school breaks), and professional. Well done! The drivers were very cooperative and worked well with the tour guides. Good Team! Next year, I will be planning Dubai and Jordan. If you do these places, I will be in touch with you again. On behalf of my group, thank you. Monaco - The tour was fantastic. We really enjoyed our driverguide. We did a lot of tours during our trip and I must say this tour was one of the best. Ill be happy to recommend to my friends.

It was just FABULOUS! And we could not be more thrilled to have had the chance to meet these wonderful people who took us through their cities and showed us with such pride how rich their lives and their history has been. We ate it up and tried to memorize every bit of information. They were truly  professional tour guides  and gave us everything we could possibly handle. We loved it. Everything went perfectly and our flights over and back went without a hitch. (which is always a bit by luck) We had a huge suite at the front of the ship with all kinds of special perks for the cruise and we spent most of the time in the room because of the view. The weather was perfect except for a little light rain in Germany. But we had sunshine in all the other ports and we understood it was a big deal in Russia. My parents were troopers and they LOVE their private shore trips! They brag about this type of touring to everyone they know and they are, by far, your biggest fans! We can not wait to call you again to book as many tours as possible with  Travel with Friends . Because that is truly what it is Travel With Friends! I would love to write again for your web page. Just give me some time to recover. ) Sincerely - A very happy traveler!

I just wanted you to hear that I have outstanding feedback from the large family of 7 that you arranged a private Berlin in early June. Apparently the guide, Greta, was beyond impressive and not only kept the history buffs fascinated, but entertained the remainder of the family and the one year old too! Apparently she is the best guide they have ever booked anywhere). I hope this is good news to end the week and Happy 4th!

I have been meaning to get in touch and letting you know that all private tours were right on time even though after reconfirming from the hotel in Copenhagen my German phone never worked, so I was a bit concerned how it would work out but they were all there, were professional and helpful and with the three boys it was the best decision I made about the whole trip to have the private tours. I knew this cruise would not be the perfect itinerary for teen age boys but I think the guides we had made it work, adjusted the programs tour over the city rather than the city tour as it would have given the boys a thrill and me the kind of overview of the city one could not get from a car. I dont mean it complaining, it is more hindsight on my part. I would recommend Private tours to anyone with a small group, as the flexibility and advantage of passing all the long long line ups for all the larger groups and sneaking in ahead of them was worth alone the extra cost. On top of it the flexibility was just priceless for the boys. I have less good things to say about the cruise line, found the ship not well organized and not at all helpful for anyone not wanting their tours and giving the rest of us wrong information about landing procedures at least 12 the time. Well, I have learned a lot and even though I will never be a total cruise fan, the baltic itinerary is really very informative if one prepares oneself as there was little or no advanced information on the destination ports given to us from the ship itself. So, thanks for your helpful service, I would recommend booking private tours to anyone!! You are welcome to quote my recommendation if needed.
