TOUR DESCRIPTION

San Marino Shore Excursion from Ancona / 8 Hours

This Ancona day trip visits the historic country of San Marino, one of the smallest countries in the world. You will explore its hilltop town, enjoy stunning views, and then have free time for lunch, shopping or self exploration.

Getting to San Marino

You meet your driver at the pier in Ancona and start the journey to San Marino, a 25 square mile landlocked country which has existed since the 4th century. The country has a population of only about 35,000 people and sits on the slopes of Mount Titano.

Your Walking Tour of San Marino

Upon arrival in San Marino, you are joined by a local tour guide who provides your private group a walking tour of the town. You start by entering San Marino through the grand Saint Francis Gate. Once you are through the gate, you will be impressed by this well preserved medieval town.

As you stroll through the narrow streets, you will see the town's fortified walls and some of its highlights, such as the Palazzo Pubblico, the monumental Basilica of San Marino, and the simple Church of Saint Francis. Your walking tour is about 2 hours and includes walking on some cobblestones and some uphill grades, so comfortable shoes are strongly recommended.

Free Time in San Marino

After the walking tour, you have free time for lunch, shopping or self exploration. Not to be missed is one of the amazing viewpoints, which offers wonderful views over the Italian countryside. You are sure to take plenty of photos of the ancient churches and stone houses. After your free time, your guide will get you back to your vehicle for the journey back to the pier in Ancona.

Please note
  • Due to the hilly, cobblestoned terrain in San Marino, this tour is not wheelchair or mobility scooter accessible.

Ken Diaz the Group Reservation Manager of Private Shore Trips organized an amazing set of tourstransportation events for our group of 42 friends and family in MULTIPLE countries! Yes Italy, Greece & Turkey!! Or tour guides provided excellent connections with the entire group and gave a dissertation on the history of each location we visited. We had teachers in our group and they were impressed with the tour guides that says a lot!
