TOUR DESCRIPTION

Cork & Cobh Highlights with Blarney Castle

This is the most popular Cork shore excursion for first time visitors. You enjoy a Cork city driving tour taking in the main sites, including the Cork City Gaol and the English Market, followed by free time for lunch and an afternoon visit to Blarney Castle, one of the most famous sites in all of Ireland.

After meeting your driver guide at the pier in Cobh, you begin with a driving tour of Cork city. You see historic landmarks including City Hall, St. Finbarr's Cathedral, St. Patrick's Street, and St. Anne's Cathedral.

Next you visit the Cork City Gaol. This imposing building opened in 1824 and housed prisoners until it closed in 1923. A tour takes you around the restored jail and its refurnished cells, telling the story of the social history and contrasting lifestyles of 19th century Cork.

You then walk to the English Market, a covered market for fish, fruit, meat, and vegetable sellers with entrances on Prince's Street, St. Patrick's Street, and the Grand Parade. The market traces its origins to a charter granted under King James I in 1610, and the current building opened in 1788. In recent years the range of food on offer has broadened to include fruit and vegetables, an organic stall, a traditional French deli stall, an olive stall, a cheese and pasta stall, and a bread stall.

Next you have free time to enjoy lunch, meal not included, at a typical Irish pub. In the afternoon you depart for Blarney Castle, whose keep dates from 1446 and stands on solid limestone. There are 127 steps to the top of the tower, where you take in views across the surrounding countryside, and you will likely feel compelled to kiss the Blarney Stone for the gift of eloquence.

Finally you drive into Blarney village to visit the Blarney Woolen Mills, a local shop set in an old woolen mill specializing in quality Irish goods such as crystal, linen, china, and pottery. After time to explore the shop, you return to the pier in Cobh.

If you cannot find what you are looking for, our Cork shore excursions can also be customized to fit your needs. If you have a larger group, we can offer you a private Cork tour using a mid-size bus or full size coach. Please contact us with any questions or to receive a customized quote.

Please note
  • The English Market is closed on Sundays and Holidays. If your tour is on one of these days, then you will enjoy free time to explore Cork's pedestrian zone, do some shopping or visit a local pub. It should be noted that most sites are closed until noon on Sunday.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is there a guarantee that we'll make it back to the ship on time from our Cork tour?
You're covered: every Cork reservation carries our Back-to-Ship Guarantee automatically. If a delay caused by our tour operator keeps you from returning to the ship on time, we'll arrange and cover your transportation to catch up with the ship at its next port of call. To qualify, your tour needs to be scheduled to return at least 1.5 hours before the ship's departure, and you'll need to be back at the vehicle for every agreed meeting time during the day.
How does the deposit and balance payment work for Cork tours?
A $50 deposit per tour locks in your Cork reservation. The remaining balance is due 30 days before your tour date. If your plans change, that deposit isn't refundable, but it stays on your account as credit toward any tour for up to 3 years. Larger groups, custom itineraries, or tours involving flights or overnight stays may carry a bigger deposit and their own terms, which we'll spell out at booking.
What if I need to cancel my Cork excursion last minute?
Cork tours cancelled at least 15 days ahead are refunded less a $50 administration fee. Inside 14 days of the tour date, cancellations become non-refundable. One exception: if your ship simply doesn't call at Cork because of weather, mechanical issues, or political unrest, you'll get a full refund less the $50 fee. All cancellation requests need to be submitted in writing by email.
What's the pickup process for a Cork tour?
Cruise Ship: Disembark at Cork and proceed to the terminal's main public exit. With a terminal building, walk through arrivals to the public pickup area outside -- ask cruise staff if needed. Without one, your driver is waiting on the dock. If your contact isn't immediately visible, remain near the exit and call the local dispatch number provided in your confirmation. Hotel: Look for your driver or guide right outside the main entrance or in the lobby -- they'll be holding a sign with your group name. Airport: Once you've collected your luggage and cleared customs, head into the arrivals hall -- your driver or guide will be there holding a sign with your group name.
Are museum and site tickets included in the Cork tour price?
Admission costs are covered on Cork tours whenever the tour page says so. Keep in mind some venues require timed, skip-the-line tickets that become non-refundable the moment they're purchased. We'll flag any non-refundable entrance fees for you at booking.
How flexible is a private Cork tour?
Private Cork tours are meant to bend to your priorities, not the other way around. Mention any must-see sight to your driver or guide at pickup, and they'll do their best to work it in. Traffic and time constraints can occasionally limit how much we can change, but your guide will always try to keep things personal.

Our tour guide Maria in Belfast and Ronni in Cork were waiting for us at the dock and we quickly boarded the vans and started our wonderful tours in ireland. Our guides were very knowledgeable and flexible allowing us to stop and take photos at highlighted points of interest. Although we could have seen more of the country our group decided that a great lunch was in order so Maria called and made us a reservation at a wonderful restaurant in belfast. There we enjoyed a excellent meal and shopping.

Just returned from London yesterday. Just wanted to let you know that all went well and the guides were outstanding. Had a fabulous time and looking forward to working with you again. The guides were very professional and on time. One was 30 minutes late, but we forgave him... He turned out to be a very good guide. I think it was in Belfast. Leaving for Honolulu for the month of August Wed, so have a lot to do before that date. Thanks again.

The group enjoyed the shore excursions very much. The tours guides were good, responsible and on time. Vehicles were also comfortable and not too cramped.   Will definitely be contacting you for my next cruise on Crystal leaving Barcelona on  October 2027.
