Helsinki & Porvoo Shore Excursion

This full-day Helsinki shore excursion is built for guests who want both the capital and the countryside in a single port day, rather than choosing one or the other.

Your morning covers the essentials of Helsinki: after meeting your licensed guide, you drive past the Market Square on the waterfront, then stop for photos at Senate Square, where Neoclassical landmarks built after the city's 1808 fire, including the Presidential Palace and Helsinki Cathedral, surround a statue of Alexander II. Along Mannerheim Street you pass the National Museum, Alvar Aalto's Finlandia Hall, and the Opera House before visiting Temppeliaukio Rock Church, the landmark carved into solid granite and topped with a copper dome. You finish the morning at the Sibelius Monument, Eila Hiltunen's steel pipe sculpture honoring the Finnish composer.

You then have free time in Helsinki to grab lunch on your own or do some shopping (meal not included) before departing for the afternoon portion of the day.

The drive to Porvoo takes you about 31 miles (50km) east of Helsinki, into a town that has been welcoming visitors since it received its town charter in 1346. In Porvoo's old town, your guide walks you past the ochre and red riverside warehouses that give the town its postcard look, most dating from the 18th century, and through cobblestone lanes lined with wooden buildings, artisan workshops, and small galleries. You visit the Old Church of Porvoo and the Town Hall Square, then have free time to browse the shops and riverfront on your own before your guide drives you back to Helsinki.
