This is the most popular Milan day trip. You have a full day to explore Lake Como, including the beautiful resort town of Bellagio, followed by Varenna, a smaller and more relaxed lakeside town with plenty of its own character.
After meeting your English speaking driver, you depart the hustle and bustle of Milan, and in a short time you are traveling along the shores of Lake Como, one of the most fascinating and beautiful places in northern Italy. The lake has long drawn Hollywood names, including George Clooney, who owns a villa here.
When you reach Bellagio, you have about 3.5 hours of free time to stroll the tiny cobblestone streets and alleys lined with boutiques selling typical Italian goods. You might visit one of the town's famous lakeside villas, or simply enjoy a lakeside lunch at one of the many restaurants with waterfront patios.
Next you continue along the lake's shores to Varenna, smaller than Bellagio but just as rich in history and beauty. During your time here you may choose to visit the Church of San Giorgio, consecrated in 1313 and the anchor of the village for over 700 years, Vezio Castle, a medieval hilltop fortress with sweeping lake views, or Villa Cipressi, known for its cypress-lined terraced gardens. Do not miss the easy Lovers Walk (Passeggiata degli Innamorati), which runs along the water's edge from the town center to the harbor.
Your driver brings you back to your hotel at the end of the day.
